Happy Decemberists Day

15/01/20 at 11.28pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Decemberists DayThe fine folks up in Portland, Oregon, led by Mayor Charles Hales, have declared January 20 Decemberists Day, in honor of the indie-folk band.  Mr. Hales stated The Decemberists “embody the Portland values of passion, engagement, and communitarianism with the Portland aesthetic of homegrown, forthright, slightly hippie, and often bespectacled glory.”  The festivities at the City Hall were to include; a performance from the band, as well as the unveiling of a collaborative art piece inspired by The Decemberists that was created by 50 local Portland artists and small businesses.  Furthermore, a proclamation will be presented to the band.

The band released their seventh studio album today, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World.  Last week, the band released a lyric video for the album-track “A Beginning Song” (watch below).

Sadly, the group is not playing the 2015 Coachella Festival, but they are hitting San Diego for a show at the North Park Theatre on April 30.

Michael Stipe Discusses Future With CBS This Morning

14/12/22 at 7.42pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Michael StipeR.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe recently sat down with Anthony Mason of CBS This Morning and was candid on his plans to sing again, along with the future of the iconic band.  When asked about a R.E.M. reunion, Mr. Stipe said “No. That will never happen… There’s no point.”  He goes on to add that he despises nostalgia (Heritage Acts) but has full respect for them.  The soon to be 55 year old plans to sing again soon, just not with R.E.M.

The band recently released a six-DVD career spanning box set entitled REMTV.  If you’re looking for a last minute stocking stuffer for the R.E.M. fan in your life, look no further.

Coachella Reflects With Video “Desert Parallax”

14/12/20 at 7.27am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Coachella imageThe official site of the Coachella Music Festival came out of hibernation mode Friday, as a 2014 reflection video titled “Desert Parallax” was unveiled.  Activity around this time of the year is common and usually signifies the beginning of Coachella season.  The video, which is really cool, IMO, comes nearly eight month after the official Reflection Day which is held the Monday following the 3-day festival.  Expect more activity from Coachella in the upcoming weeks, along with the unveiling of the 2015 line-up in late January.

Warning:  Tears may flow.

Let’s reflect!

The Libertines Plan New Album

14/12/14 at 9.10am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

The LibertinesBritish indie rock band The Libertines recently announced their plans to release a new album in 2015.  The recently reformed group had reunited back in April and played their first show in four years on June 28 in Glasgow, Scotland.  Last month the band announced a album deal with Virgin EMI Records, and now comes the news of their first album since the self-titled 2004 release.

Apparently, frontman Pete Doherty is once again clean, he’s attending a rehab facility in Thailand where is announcement was made.  Mr. Doherty had this to say on the news: “I don’t know what to say, I’m so happy, It was a beautiful day.”  Bandmate and fellow frontman Carl Barât, added: “After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, I couldn’t be more excited.”

The highly-regarded indie band formed in 1997 and released two albums before their ugly split in 2004.  The group was instrumental in spearheading the garage-rock revival movement in the early 00’s.  Add The Libertines to my Coachella 2015 Perfect Poster Wish List.

Discography;
Up The Bracket  (2002)
The Libertines  (2004)
