Over the next 11 weeks I’ll dig deep into the 2014 Coachella Music Festival lineup, featuring one band per day. The purpose of this piece is to assist in difficult decisions that inevitably you’ll need to make, as well as, serve as a fun countdown to Coachella Week. Note: All bands appear in a completely random order… Enjoy, and let the countdown continue!
Day 55 = Kate Nash
Performing = Friday
Kate Nash is an English singer-songwriter and actress that launched her musical career on MySpace in 2005. Her edgy piano-driven pop rock is cut from the same mold that brought us fellow U.K. singer Lily Allen. The two actually promote each other’s work, and their heavy British accents makes their work unmistakable. Personally, I prefer Ms. Allen’s work just slightly, but after taking the latest effort from Ms. Nash for a spin… I dunno?
The natural redhead has released three studio albums:
Made Of Bricks (2007)
My Best Friend Is You (2010)
Girl Talk (2013)
Nash cites Hole (the band) as her musical influence, and Bikini Kill frontwoman Kathleen Hanna as her idol. In her free time Kate plays bass in the punk band The Receders. Recently, she’s been busy launching a big screen career, appearing in three films over the last couple of years.
I caught Kate’s first appearance at the Coachella Festival back in 2008, I remember what a good sport my friend Tim-O was by putting up with that show. That’s the same Tim-O that was forced into the tent to take a peek at Lily Allen with me in 2007. One Kate Nash show was plenty enough for me.
