BullyEach week I post the Top 20 College Radio Albums courtesy of CMJ (College Media Journal).  Below are also 5 discs that I have in heavy rotation and an album that amazingly turns 10 years old in 2015, I call it my Spicy 6.

College Radio loves Thee Oh Sees! Their latest album is #1 for the third week in the last four.  Four new albums make their debut in the Top 20, and Courtney Barnett returns to the countdown at #18.  Making their debuts are Santa Monica, California indie popsters Cayucas at #19, and Forth Worth, Texas indie-gospel singer Leon Bridges at #17, who’s listening to indie-gospel?  The other two new entries are from Omaha, Nebraska EMO legends Desaparecidos at #14, and Nashville, Tennessee indie buzzband Bully (pictured) at #7.

North London’s Wolf Alice is still my #1 compact disc of the week, but Bully is closing in.  The English indie rock band Hard-Fi released their debut full-length Stars Of CCTV on the 4th of July ten years ago.  The tune “Cash Machine” is a fun song.

turntable1Veruca Salt Ghost Notes

Nineties alt rockers Veruca Salt return with their fifth studio album overall.  This is the first album from the Chicago band with all original members since 1997’s sophomore release Eight Arms To Hold You.  “Laughing In The Sugar Bowl” is the first single from the new album, watch it below along with their 1994 alt rock classic “Seether.”  Add Veruca Salt to my Coachella 2016 Perfect Poster Wish List.

Top Albums For The Week Of June 30, 2015

The Oh SeesEach week I post the Top 20 College Radio Albums courtesy of CMJ (College Media Journal).  Below are also 5 discs that I have in heavy rotation and an album that amazingly turns 10 years old in 2015, I call it my Spicy 6.

Thee Oh Sees (pictured) trade spots with Hot Chip, and take over the top honors on the College Radio Album Chart for the second time in three weeks.  Three new albums make their debut in the Top 20 including the sophomore release from the British all-girl rock band PINS.  The other two new entries are from the supergroup formed by members of Franz Ferdinand and Sparks, who simply call themselves FFS, and experimental veteran Jim O’Rourke.

I’ve been singing the praises of North London’s Wolf Alice for a few years, now you know what all the fuss was about.  The band’s full length debut is in the lead position in my CD changer.  Speaking of Franz Ferdinand, their sophomore effort You Could Have It So Much Better turns 10 years old this fall.  “Do You Want To” was probably the biggest single from their disappointing follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2004 debut.
