Foals Announce New Album, Share Title Track “What Went Down”

15/06/27 at 9.23am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Foals 2015Oxford, England indie rockers Foals have announced their fourth studio album What Went Down will be released on Friday August 28 worldwide.  The new album is the follow-up to the incredible 2013 LP Holy Fire.  This week the band shared a stunning video for the lead track from the album, also titled “What Went Down.”

Recently, frontman Yannis Philippakis said the band’s forthcoming album will be “heavier, poppier and weirder” than 2013’s Holy Fire. The singer described pushing the sound “so the extremes were further apart”, adding that Nick Cave has heavily influenced his lyrics. “We felt that the spread on Holy Fire was good but on this we wanted to push it out even further, so the extremes were further apart. The heavier songs are heavier, the poppy songs are poppier and weirder.”

foals yannisFurthermore, Mr. Philippakis said “this new stuff’s going to decimate venues; we’re itching to play it,” he added,“it’s going to be fun to get back on stage and obliterate places.”  Can’t Wait!!!

Folks, if you’re not excited about marking your calendar for August 28th after one listen to the title track below, then shame on you… seriously.

Hold on to your seat, here it is:

My Morning Jacket knocks Alabama Shakes from the #1 spot on the College Radio Album Chart after fourth straight weeks at the top.  Three new albums make their debut in the Top 20 including the latest effort from Cincinnati Ohio’s Heartless Bastards.  The other two new entries are from the Wales five-piece Joanna Gruesome and the Los Angeles punk duo Girlpool (pictured).

The sophomore effort from Lord Huron is still my #1 compact disc.  Speaking of My Morning Jacket, the Louisville, Kentucky rock band’s fourth studio album Z turns 10 years old in October.  The track “Off The Record” was a popular tune off that album.  Personally, I don’t understand what the big deal is with My Morning Jacket, I find their music quite boring.

R.I.P. The Replacements

15/06/07 at 11.49am   /   by deepster19   /   1 Comment

20150416_213905If you’re a Mats fan, what took place over the last three plus years was only supposed to happen in you’re wildest imagination.  The 2012 benefit EP Songs For Slim for sick guitarist Slim Dunlap, reuniting for the three Riot Fest dates in 2013, the disinterested Coachella appearance in 2014, and finally, the Back By Unpopular Demand Tour in 2015.

Sadly, The Replacements frontman Paul Westerberg told the Primavera Porto on Friday that the Primavera Sound Festival date would be their final show ever (allegedly).  He also added they blew off their sound check, calling the band “lazy bastards to the end.”  It should come as no surprise, since Mr. Westerberg was doing his best Riddler act by wearing a different t-shirt each night of the tour with a spray painted letter on it.  In the end, fans with much more time on their hands, were able to figure out his message, “I have always loved you. Now I must whore out my past.”

IMG_4841According to numerous reports, you can put an end to those silly rumors about the band planning to release a new album.  However, the new tune “Whole Food Blues” surfaced in recent shows.

I feel bad for my friends back in Pittsburgh who had their Mats show at the AE Stage postponed, now officially cancelled.

Folks, that was fun while it lasted, albeit sloppy at best.

Enjoy my vid “I’ll Be You” from Coachella 2014

Alabama Shakes remain at #1 on the College Radio Album Chart for a fourth straight week.  Very little change within the Top 20 as the only new entry is the latest release from Thee Oh Sees.  The biggest mover within the Top 20 is from Unknown Mortal Orchestra (pictured) who jumps thirteen spots to #6.

The sophomore effort from Lord Huron is still my #1 compact disc.  The debut album Apologies To The Queen Mary from the Canadian indie rock band Wolf Parade turns 10 years old in September.  The single “Shine A Light” is a great tune!

Spector Planning New Album,

Share Video For “Bad Boyfriend”

15/06/04 at 1.08pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Spector bandLondon based indie rockers Spector, recently confirmed plans to release the much-anticipated follow-up to their 2012 debut Enjoy It While It Lasts.

Frontman Fred Macpherson recently told NME “I don’t think we ever necessarily thought there would be a second album,” but went on to say, “‘All The Sad Young Men’ is one of the tracks that took us the longest to get right because of how much it meant to us. I’m pretty sure it’s the best song we’ve written, and its honesty plays a big part in that.”

Spector frontman Fred Macpherson and blogger DJ Deep take time from their busy 2012 Coachella schedule to pose for a photograph.

The UK band is best known for their Reflection Day anthem “Never Fade Away.”  Last week the quartet shared a video for their latest single “Bad Boyfriend.”  In the likely event Spector isn’t on your new music radar… this now makes three singles released since last December, all of which are supposed to be included of the forthcoming album.  There’s no date at this time for the album’s release, but you can rest assured, I’ll keep you posted.

Spoon To Perform At Birthday Bash Tonight!

15/06/02 at 6.00am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Happy Birthday 2Allow me to be the first to wish myself a Happy Birthday.  Today this blog turns 2 years old.  Over the last year, I’ve continued my commitment to the Coachella Music Festival, indie music on late night television, relevant new indie releases, and keeping tabs on the weekly College Radio Album Chart.

Who knows where this blog is going, or why I even continue with it in the first place, but it still remains fun, and that’s all that really matters.

To celebrate the blog turning 2, I’ve arranged for a birthday bash tonight at the North Park Theatre in downtown San Diego.   Austin, Texas indie stalwarts Spoon have agreed to provide the entertainment tonight.

Spoon imageFestivities will commence around 6pm with some IPA’s and Burgers at a yet to be announced watering hole.  The North Park Theatre will open their doors at 7pm, with fellow Austin band Sweet Spirit scheduled to take the stage at 8pm, in support of the main event, Spoon.

Amazingly, tickets still remain for the band’s second of two nights in San Diego.

Spoon is scheduled to perform on Conan O’Brien on Wednesday night.

Here’s a few notable fun facts from year two of the blog:
* 2014 Album Of The Year = Spoon They Want My Soul
* 2014 Track Of The Year = Bear In Heaven “Time Between”
* Best Performance at 2015 Coachella = Jack White
* 286 total posts
* 286 total posts by me
* 6 references made to alt-country

Here’s a couple of Spoon videos:
