Day Wave – The Casbah – San Diego – Tonight!

17/06/27 at 2.44pm   /   by deepster19   /   5 Comments

Day WaveTo the best of my knowledge, Jackson Philips has yet to produce a bad tune under the moniker Day Wave.  Seriously, everything that’s come out since 2014 has been solid.

The one-man bedroom-beats extraordinaire brings his talents to San Diego this evening, playing a show at The Casbah.

The Oakland, California musician tours with a full band, so I’m curious to hear how those flawless beats translate live.

Mr. Philips released his debut full-length The Days We Had back in May.  The LP was preceded by countless catchy singles over the past few years.

His music is inspired by The Beach Boys and New Order, but I hear hints of The Cure and The Ocean Blue.

Doors are at 8:30, with the show starting at 930.  There’s two openers scheduled tonight, Dear Boy and Blonder.

This post will update with vids and setlist.

Midnight Oil – Wiltern Theater – Los Angeles – Tonight!

17/05/25 at 12.20pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Midnight OilAfter a fifteen year break, Midnight Oil is back together!

The legendary Australian rockers, lead by 64 year old frontman Peter Garrett, have embarked upon The Great Circle World Tour.  The tour kicked off in South America last month and is nearing the end of the North American leg tonight at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.

This is no typical reunion tour, you know, the kind where a band plays the same seventeen tunes in order night after night.  The Oils have rehearsed practically their entire catalogue and play a different set (23 tunes) each night.  They’ve already introduced more than seventy different tunes on their tour so far, if you count a few warm up gigs in their home country to start the tour.

Fans can count on a run on the hits at the end of the set, including alternative rock classics “Beds Are Burning,” “The Dead Heart,” “Blue Sky Mine,” “Dreamworld,” and “Forgotten Years.”  Other classic Midnight Oil tunes that show up on the setlist on a consistent basis include “Power and The Passion,” “King Of The Mountain,” “Truganini,” and “When Generals Talk.”

What’s your favorite Midnight Oil tune? Mine’s “Warakurna.”

Doors swing open at 7pm. All Our Exes Live In Texas is scheduled to open.

Can’t wait!

The Shins – North Park Theater – San Diego – Tonight!

17/03/07 at 9.30am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

The ShinsGoINDEEpMusic will be out at the North Park Theater in San Diego seeking a life changing experience.  The Shins will conclude their two-night residency in San Diego tonight.

The pride and joy of Albuquerque, New Mexico will be showcasing most of the tracks off the new album Heartworms, which is scheduled to drop this coming Friday.  Four of the tracks from Heartworms have already been released as singles, including “Painting A Hole,” released last week.  In addition to the new songs, there will plenty of classic Shins tunes, I swear.

Btw, whatever happened with The Shins are confirmed for Coachella?

Kid Wave gets things started around 8pm.

This should be fun!  I’ll keep you posted on the setlist and try to get some vids.

Check out The Shins Mixtape I threw together!

Small Black On The Lineup

16/06/11 at 7.56am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

After a two year absence from the Make Music Pasadena Music Festival, GoINDEEpMusic will reappear there today.

Small BlackI’m most looking forward to checking out the Brooklyn indie band Small Black today.  The band is playing Playhouse District Stage at 4:30.  I’ve always said, Small Black is a hugely underrated indie act and the best act to emerge from the chillwave genre, sorry Washed Out.

Other acts I will try to check out include Annuals, PAPA, and Atlas Genius.

Here’s the schedule.

Enjoy some Small Black below:

The Thermals – Soda Bar – San Diego – Tonight!

16/05/20 at 12.44pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

GoINDEEpMusic will be out at the Soda Bar in San Diego tonight to check out The Thermals.

The Portland-based indie-punk band has been around since 2002 and have released seven studio albums.  Their current album We Disappear came out on March 25.

The ThermalsThe trio consists of Hutch Harris (guitar, vocals), Kathy Foster (bass, vocals), and Westin Glass (drums, vocals).  Harris and Foster are founding members, Glass joined the band in 2008.

The band is currently touring North America showcasing most of the tracks off of We Disappear, as well as playing their 2006 album The Body, The Blood, The Machine in its entirety, just not in proper order.  It appears that sets have been running roughly 23 songs deep, so there’s no need to worry about not getting your 15 bucks worth.

Also appearing tonight are Colleen Green and Summer Cannibals.  Get your tickets right here, doors fly open 8:30.  I’ll update this post if the vids I shoot tonight are decent.

Here’s a few tunes they’ll play tonight:

Coachella 2016 – Weekend 2 – This Weekend!

It’s here!

Coachella 2016 PosterGoINDEEpMusic will be making its thirteenth consecutive appearance at the Coachella Music Festival this weekend.

The festivities get under way this afternoon with Arrival Day traditions.

In the likely event I encounter parking and entrance issues, I’ll be out on the festival grounds bright and early Friday morning

Once inside, I will proceed directly to the nearest Spicy Pie location.  I can’t wait to sink my teeth into a piece of Happy Waitress, as I allow it to burn the roof of my mouth.

Maybe this is the year I finally ride the ferris wheel, I’ve been threatening to do that for years.

It appears Lush has resolved their visa issues and will performing their scheduled Saturday show in the Gobi.  Thank God, since they were my #1 must-see band of the festival.

In case of missed the countdown, here’s my Top 40 Must-See Bands.

Silversun Pickups – The Observatory – San Diego – Tonight!

16/04/19 at 2.28pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

UPDATED

GoIndeepMusic will be out at The Observatory in San Diego tonight for an evening of friends, food, fun, and alternative rock.

Remember when it was cool to say you were into alternative rock?

Silversun PickupsSilversun Pickups are one of those type of bands that’s too alt for the radio station I listen to, so I don’t keep up with them as much as I used to.  I am however on their mailing list, so I do occasionally receive electronic mail from the band updating me on what they’re up to.  I’ve been on the list since I saw them at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach way back in 2006.

Tonight will be my fourth Pickups show overall, and then I’ll catch them a fifth time Saturday night at the Coachella Music Festival.  The quartet will be making their third Coachella appearance in 2016, following stops at Empire Polo Grounds in 2009 and 2007.

I purposely left them off my Top 40 Must-See Coachella 2016 Bands, knowing I was going to this show tonight.  If I wasn’t going to the show tonight, they would’ve been around my #40 must-see band.

Pickups Better NatureThe Los Angeles-based rockers have four studio albums to their credit.  The most recent effort, Better Nature, came out last September.

Down below are a few vids from the show.  Both tunes are off the new album.

The Pickups are always fun!

CHVRCHESGoINDEEpMusic is going dancing at The Observatory in San Diego tonight.

Glasgow, Scotland’s CHVRCHES, the best synthpop act on the planet, will kickoff their North American tour in a few hours in North Park.  This evening’s show precedes their two-weekend appearance at the Coachella Music Festival.

The Toronto-based indie pop outfit Alvvays gets the festivities started at roughly 8pm.

I will officially inform Glasgow tonight.

Yuck – Soda Bar – San Diego – Tonight!

16/03/23 at 1.19pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Yuck Stranger ThingsUPDATED

GoINDEEpMusic will be out at the Soda Bar in San Diego, California for an evening with Yuck.  The London-based indie rockers recently fired up their North American tour, and are fresh off of multiple appearances at SXSW in Austin, Texas last week.

The group is touring their third studio album Stranger Things which dropped back on February 26.  This is the band’s second album since Max Bloom to over lead vocal duties, he replaced departed founding member Daniel Blumberg.

Tonight will be my second encounter with the band, the first coming at “Winter Chella 2012.”  The moment Yuck hit the Outdoor Stage in 2012, the skies darkened, the wind kicked up to hurricane-like force, and it began to rain, seriously, at Coachella.  The wind was so bad during their set, it was impossible to hear the early 90’s influenced lo-fi quartet go at it.

Tickets still remain for tonight’s show for a measly 14 bucks.  Doors swing open at 8:30.  Two bands are supporting Yuck tonight, the Los Angeles outfit Junk and Brooklyn’s pride and joy Big Thief.

Can’t wait!

MEW – North Park Theatre – San Diego – Tonight!

mew-copenhagen-2014-1649_hiGoINDEEpMusic will be out at the North Park Theatre in San Diego, CA tonight for an evening with MEW.  The Danish indie band begins their three week North American tour tonight in sunny San Diego and concluded on October 11 in the land of the cheaters, Boston.  What’s your favorite Danish? Mine’s cheese.

The group released their sixth studio album earlier this year, around the same time long-time guitarist Bo Madsen left the band.  The latest release + – has been received with positive reviews and it also marks the return of bassist Johan Wohlert, he left the band in 2008.  + – is the the band’s first studio album since 2009’s No More Stories…

The DodosSan Francisco indie rockers The Dodos are scheduled to open tonight.  The Dodos released their sixth studio album Individ back in January.  It’s rare you get two great bands on the same bill, not to mention, it’s only 18 bucks plus fees.  Tickets still remain.

Bloc Party – Glass House – Pomona, CA – Tonight!

15/08/19 at 4.20pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

KeleGoINDEEpMusic will be out at the Glass House in Pomona, CA tonight for an evening with Bloc Party.  Tonight marks the British indie rock band’s first show since July 2013, in advance of their appearance at this weekend’s FYF Fest.

The band recently resurfaced from a brief hiatus and have made major lineup changes.  Gone are bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer Matt Tong.  Still in place are frontman Kele Okereke (pictured) and guitarist Russell Lissack, who have had zipper lips on who is replacing the former members.

The Gang Of Four inspired band is currently is working on 15 new songs for their forthcoming fifth studio album.  The group’s 2005 debut effort Silent Alarm was named by this blog as the Best Album of the Zero’s Decade.

I’ll be curious to see who else at the show besides me will be discussing the band’s hiatus.

The Los Angeles alternative rock band The Active Set will provide support.

Here’s a tune we better hear tonight.

Spoon To Perform At Birthday Bash Tonight!

15/06/02 at 6.00am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Happy Birthday 2Allow me to be the first to wish myself a Happy Birthday.  Today this blog turns 2 years old.  Over the last year, I’ve continued my commitment to the Coachella Music Festival, indie music on late night television, relevant new indie releases, and keeping tabs on the weekly College Radio Album Chart.

Who knows where this blog is going, or why I even continue with it in the first place, but it still remains fun, and that’s all that really matters.

To celebrate the blog turning 2, I’ve arranged for a birthday bash tonight at the North Park Theatre in downtown San Diego.   Austin, Texas indie stalwarts Spoon have agreed to provide the entertainment tonight.

Spoon imageFestivities will commence around 6pm with some IPA’s and Burgers at a yet to be announced watering hole.  The North Park Theatre will open their doors at 7pm, with fellow Austin band Sweet Spirit scheduled to take the stage at 8pm, in support of the main event, Spoon.

Amazingly, tickets still remain for the band’s second of two nights in San Diego.

Spoon is scheduled to perform on Conan O’Brien on Wednesday night.

Here’s a few notable fun facts from year two of the blog:
* 2014 Album Of The Year = Spoon They Want My Soul
* 2014 Track Of The Year = Bear In Heaven “Time Between”
* Best Performance at 2015 Coachella = Jack White
* 286 total posts
* 286 total posts by me
* 6 references made to alt-country

Here’s a couple of Spoon videos:

The-Replacements tour15GoINDEEpMusic will be out at the Hollywood Palladium tonight for an evening with The Replacements.  The Mats recently kicked off their Back By Unpopular Demand Tour last week in Seattle, tonight the second Hollywood show in as many nights.  This is the first proper tour for the Minneapolis legends since reforming back in 2013.  The band had only been playing festival dates up to this point.

Immediately after the show, I’m off to The Promised Land to celebrate Arrival Day at the Coachella Music Festival Weekend 2.

Enjoy “Bastards Of Young”

2:54 & Honeyblood – The Hideout – San Diego – Tonight!

15/03/13 at 8.52am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

254 bandGoINDEEpMusic will be out at The Hide Out in San Diego tonight for an evening of elegant dream pop with the London based band 2:54.  The band is comprised of the Thurlow sisters, Colette and Hannah, along with Joel Porter (not to be confused with former Steelers linebacker Joey Porter) and Alex Robins.  The ladies formed the band in 2010 after splitting from the punk band The Vulgarians.  2:54 takes their name from the precise moment in The Melvins tune “A History Of Bad Men” when as Colette describes “the bass line turns doomy, and dreamy.”  Ms. & Ms. Thurlow dropped their self-titled debut back in 2012, and have since followed it up with the 2014 release The Other I.

HoneybloodIf that not fun enough, the Glasgow, Scotland lo-fi band Honeyblood will open the festivities tonight.  These ladies dropped their first studio album last summer, and have since put themselves in the category of a band on the come.  If you dig Vivian Girls or Best Coast I suggest not missing their opening slot.

Tickets are still available for the show for a measly 14 bucks.  Get them here.
