Opportunities For A Pretend Coachella Becoming Endless

SiriusXM To Launch Coachella Channel Today

16/04/11 at 6.27am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Sirius XMSatellite radio provider SiriusXM has announced a limited-run channel dedicated to the Coachella Music Festival.

The channel will launch today at 2:00pm Pacific (April 11) and run through Wednesday April 28.

You’ll be able to find nonstop coverage of the fest by tuning in to channel 18.

From what I gather, the station will play music by Coachella artists leading up to the festival, and then exclusive interviews, backstage reports, and performances during the two Coachella Weekends.

I assume Jenny LSQ and Julia “Cunningham” from XMU, as well as Regan from Alt Nation, will commandeer the event.  You can anticipate those fake interviews where Jenny and Julia pretend to be into Joywave and Jeff Regan pretends to favor Deafheaven over Matt & Kim.  It makes you want to puke, but we just keep on listening.

All this fun that SiriusXM has planned over the next 17 days, I do year-round.  Who’s given you nonstop Coachella coverage, who plays Coachella artists around the clock, and who’s idea was it to extend Reflection Day through Wednesday? …Me!

Check out the festival broadcast schedule here.

Sirius XM To Broadcast Live From Coachella Festival

15/04/10 at 3.08pm   /   by deepster19   /   1 Comment

Sirius XMFor the first time ever, Sirius XM will be out at the Coachella Music Festival for both Weekend 1 and 2, broadcasting live performances and artist interviews.  The main broadcast will air on Alt Nation ( channel 36), with live performances spread out over XMU (35), The Spectrum (28), BPM (51), and Electric Area (52).  Who knew they had all these music stations, and here I thought the only music station was Sirius XMU.  Radio personalities Jenny LSQ and Jeff Regan will oversee the broadcast.   Unfortunately, DJ Joziah and Julia “Cunningham” will stay back home to man the controls.

Visit the Sirius XM Coachella page for all the details.

Have fun enjoying your pretend Coachella weekend.

Sirius XMU Goes All EMO

14/07/06 at 11.02am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Jimmy Eat WorldDon’t panic, it’s only temporary.  The fine folks at satellite radio Sirius XMU, North America’s Indie Rock Station, will present an all vintage EMO episode of the Old School show tonight (Sunday) at 6pm West Coast time.  Vintage EMO… now those are two words I never thought I would ever see together, but who knew?  I can only imagine what Jenny LSQ has in store, but I will assume it includes Jimmy Eat World (pictured), the godfathers of EMO.  Contrary to popular belief, the pride and joy of Mesa, Arizona are EMO, they always were, and always will be, period.

If you happen to miss tonight’s all Vintage EMO Old School show it replays on Wednesday at Noon West, or those with an internet subscription can listen to EMO to their heart’s content on Sirius XMU on demand.

R.I.P. Casey Kasem

14/06/17 at 3.04pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Casy KasemThis past weekend sad news surfaced on the passing of iconic radio personality Casey Kasem.  Mr. Kasem is best known for hosting the syndicated radio program American Top 40.  His other claim to fame is providing the voice for “Shaggy” in the cartoon Scooby-Doo.

Kasem co-founded the American Top 40 franchise in 1970.  He hosted the program from its inception until 1988, and then again from 1998 to 2004.  In addition to AT40 he hosted spin off shows including American Top 20, Casey’s Top 40, and the television program America’s Top 10.

I hold Casey Kasem personally responsible for my passionate obsession with music, along with my infatuation with lists and making lists.  As a kid growing up in the late seventies and early eighties I spent an inordinate amount of time listening to Casey on Sunday mornings as he “counted down the hits from coast to coast,” documenting it on a legal pad every step of the way.

“Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars”

Casey Kasem was 82.

More Carles this week on XMU

13/06/11 at 9.49pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

More Carles this week on XMU

Carles from Hipster Runoff, everyone’s favorite blog radio DJ is expanding his role with North America’s Indie Rock Station this week. Carles will be filling in for Julia who has the week off. Carles will hit the XMU airwaves from 4 to 9pm Pacific Time spinning a blend of the latest indie buzzbands, chillwave and boring cool Dad music. This should make for a fun and interesting week of indie satellite radio.

Carles can be heard every Monday from 9am to Noon and 9pm to midnight Pacific Time with his ever-popular Hipster Runoff radio show. Julia, Josiah, and Jenny LSQ may want to reconsider taking time off in the future, however Jake Fogelnest can take as much time off as he likes.
