Every Sunday we take an INDEEp look into an emerging indie artist.
This week we Shine the Sunday Spotlight on No Joy.
No Joy are indie rocking shoegazers out of Montreal, Canada. The band formed in 2009 when the duo Jasamine White-Gluz and Laura Lloyd were collaborating via e-mail. Jasamine later moved from L.A. to Montreal so the duo could start playing live together. The band caught the indie music blog buzz early on when Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast tweeted: “Dude, No Joy is the best band ever. Two hot blonde girls just shredding away. Sooooo amazing.”
The band expanded to a four piece in 2010 and lined up Sune Rose-Wagner of The Raveonettes to mix the debut full length Ghost Blonde. After releasing the EP Negaverse in 2011, the band called upon Jorge Elbrecht of Chairlift to produce the critically acclaimed sophomore effort Wait To Pleasure which was released on April 23. The first two singles from the latest album “Lunar Phobia” and “Hare Tarot Lies’ (check out below) have been in regular rotation on indie radio.
If you’re into nineties shoegaze bands like Lush and Curve then No Joy is definitely worth your time and money.
