Here’s the weekly Top 20 College Radio Albums from the Radio 200 list published by CMJ (College Media Journal). The reputable rag surveys up to 600 college radio stations of a weekly basis to compute the list.
In addition, here’s my Spicy Six Albums of the week. These are the six albums that can’t find their way out of my six disc changer. The list consists of my Top 5 Albums of the week, and one Heritage Album that’s worth dusting off and giving a listen.
Here’s the lists:
The Baltimore, Maryland indie duo Wye Oak (pictured) top the College Radio Album Charts, knocking Mac DeMarco out of the top spot after four week at #1. Five new albums debut in the Top 20 including the latest from Swedish singer-songwriter Lykke Li. Ms. Li’s third studio album I Never Learn debuts on the Radio 200 all the way up at #17. Also new to the list are albums from Teen, Eels, Jessica Lea Mayfield, and the latest project from Stephen McBean and Gregg Foreman called Pink Mountaintops.
“Luminous,” the latest effort from The Horrors is the #1 album err compact disc on Spicy Radio. I just picked up my ticket to see The Horrors at the Belly Up in Solana Beach in October. How Fun!

Philadelphia based indie rockers Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are back with new music and a recently announced tour. The last time we heard from CYHSY was way back in 2011 when the group released the album Hysteria. The band is set to release their fourth studio album on June 3 entitled Only Run.
The band has already shared the track “Coming Down” featuring Mark Berninger from The National back in April. The latest tune to emerge is a video for the track “As Always.” Watch/Listen to both below.
The band has also planned a lengthy world tour that kicks off in the States on June 2 in Washington D.C. These dudes are fun and it appears many of these shows are in small rooms.

Mac DeMarco rules the top of the charts for a fourth week, while five new albums enter the Top 20. “Everyday Robots,” the first-ever solo album from Blur frontman Damon Albarn (pictured) debuts in the Top 200 countdown all the way at #16. The lastest effort from San Francisco’s Thee Oh Sees jumps up 60 spots to debut at #4. Other albums new to the Top 20 include the latest from Woods, Chad VanGaalen, and Death. The Afghan Whigs “Do To The Beast” remains at #1 on Spicy Radio.

Frank Black, David Lovering, and Joey Santiago took 19 minutes out of their precious schedule to reveal details of all 12 tracks on the recently released album Indie Cindy. The band’s fifth studio album, and first in 23 years, hit record stores and download venues yesterday. If you’re in possession of EP’s 1,2, & 3, then already own the album Indie Cindy.
Clear off 19 minutes of uninterrupted time and check it out. At about the 10:18 mark it appears Joey has had about enough of Charles and David’s blah blah blah. Some highlights include the reference of Eddy “Electric Avenue” Grant and AC/DC.

Fresh off their two performances at the 2014 Coachella Festival, Dum Dum Girls found some time to release a video for the kickass tune “Rimbaud Eyes.” I love this tune and it saddens me that the song does not have the same effect when performed live. Of all the great tunes that DDG performed at Coachella Weekend 1, “Rimbaud Eyes” unfortunately was not one of them (IMO). I got the same feeling the night the women performed it on Letterman. I could be wrong… maybe I was just paying too much attention to Dee Dee’s outfit (or lack thereof).

KASABIAN, one of my fave bands to emerge over the last ten years, announced today that their fifth studio album is scheduled to be released on June 10. The new album is titled 48:13, after the total running time of the record.
The follow-up to the 2011 release Velociraptor! is described by frontman Tom Meighan as “less is more, you know? It’s direct. It is what it is. Just listen to it. We’ve had the confidence to lay ourselves bare. Serge has stripped it right back. It’s unbelievable.” Guitarist Sergio Pizzorno adds that “I felt we had the confidence to be more direct, more honest with this album. I started to strip away layers rather than to just keep adding.” Pizzorno wrote and produced the album.
