These are the bands that I’m looking forward to checking out at the 2015 Coachella Music Festival.  In the unlikely event anyone cares, here’s the list so far.

#24 = Sloan

Sloan is a Toronto based rock band that’s been around since 1991.  The quartet has had the same four member intact throughout their glorious career.  The band has released eleven studio albums, including the most recent 2014 offering Commonwealth.  Sloan has enjoyed most of their success north of the boarder and is regarded as one of the greatest Canadian rock bands of all time, who knew?

#25 = Phox

Phox is an alt-folk sextet that’s based in Baraboo, Wisconsin.  The band’s debut self-titled album was released last June after it was recorded at Justin Vernon‘s home studio, how fun.  I had their tune “Slow Motion” (watch below) at #12 on my list of the Top Tracks Of 2014.

#26 = Cloud Nothings

Cloud Nothings are a lo-fi scuzz band that formed in 2009 by frontman Dylan Baldi (pictured).  The Cleveland, Ohio based trio have released four studio albums.  On my list of the Top 100 Tracks Of 2014, I had their tune “I’m Not Part Of Me” at #38.  If wasn’t for the fact that I’ve already seen Cloud Nothings, they would have been much higher on my list.

#27 = Tame Impala

Tame Impala is an overrated Australian psychedelic rock band that formed in 2007 out of a home-recording project led by frontman Kevin Parker.  The band has released two well-received LP’s and made a good living playing Coachella on a regular basis.

Don’t get me wrong, I was all-over their debut release Innerspeaker.  I was right there with the “Tame Impala blah blah blah” chatter.  However, upon further review, I find their music quite boring and their live set unimpressive.  That said, I’ll be right there drinking the Tame Impala Kool Aid in a few weeks.

Anyone like fun facts?  The band is named after the medium-sized African Impala antelope, not to be confused with the Dik Dik, a small-sized African antelope.

Last week the group released the single “Let It Happen,” and the plan is to still release their third studio album in 2015.

#28 = Caribou

Dan Snaith is a Canadian electronic musician that operates under the moniker Caribou.  FKA Manitoba, Snaith has released four studio albums under the Caribou brand and six overall.  His latest album Our Love was released last October, those that get paid to review albums had it near the top of the Best Of 2014 lists.

#29 = Mac DeMarco

Macbriare Samuel Lanyon DeMarco is a Canadian slack rocker that simply goes by Mac DeMarco.  The multi-instrumentalist has released two solo albums so far, 2 in 2012 and Salad Days in April 2014, which was met with critical acclaim.

Mr. DeMarco’s live sets are said to be can’t miss raunchfests.  Allegedly, the band engages the crowd with off-color jokes and can involve nudity as well as lewd acts, all in the presence of Mac’s Mom, how fun!

#30 = Angel Olsen

Angel Olsen is an indie folk singer-songwriter that is currently based in North Carolina.  Ms. Olsen released her highly regarded sophomore album Burn Your Fire For No Witness in February 2014.  She is formerly a backup singer for Will Oldham’s outfit Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, who knew I’d be talking about alt country again in this countdown.  The track “Forgiven/Forgotten” nearly made my list of the Top 100 tracks of 2014, I think it came in at 105, not sure.

#31 = FKA Twigs

Tahliah Debrett Barnett is an English singer-songwriter that’s better known as FKA Twigs.  Ms. Twigs got her start in 2012 and released her trip hop full-length debut LP1 to critical acclaim last August.  It was preceded by 2 EP’s and she plans to release a third sometime in 2015.  LP1 showed up on almost every 2014 Best Albums Of The Year List (except mine), and DJ Joziah at Sirius XMU proclaimed it his favorite from 2014.

#32 Jenny Lewis

Jenny Lewis is an (dare I say) alt-country singer-songwriter that got her start in music back in 1998.  She is best known for her work as the frontwoman for the indie band Rilo Kiley (Coachella 2005 & 2008), in addition to being the second member of the duo Jenny and Johnny (Coachella 2011).  Ms. Lewis also has performed as a backup vocalist with the band The Postal Service (Coachella 2013).  Her solo career has included three studio albums and another Coachella appearances (see below), the most recent LP being 2014’s The Voyager.

As you can see, Jenny has performed at Coachella as much as HAIM has sneaked into.  If you enjoy a cute indie chick performing alt-country, then Jenny Lewis might be your thing.

#34 Perfume Genius

Perfume Genius is the moniker used by Seattle based chamber pop artist Mike Hadreas.  Mr. Hadreas began his work back in 2008, and has since released three studio album.  The most recent LP Too Bright was released last fall, it’s responsible for the single “Queen.”  The tune “Queen” is still in the process of taking over the world, thanks to Sirius XMU.  The suits at North America’s indie rock station thought so much of the tune, they promoted it in between songs for months late last year.  If you can handle hearing it again, check it out below.

#36 = Tycho

Tycho (pronounced Tai-Ko) is the moniker for ambient music extraordinaire Scott Hansen.  Based in San Francisco, Mr. Hansen has released four studio albums, the most recent being 2014’s Awake.  Scott has been doing his thing since 2002, and is also known as ISO50 for his photography and design work.

#37 = Coasts

Coasts are an English alternative rock band that formed in 2011 in Bristol, England.  The band has yet to release a LP but has a handful of extended plays and singles.  They currently have that annoying single “A Rush Of Blood” in heavy rotation on Sirius/XM Alt Nation channel 36.  I’m guessing it’s also being played ad nauseam on every radio station across the nation that claims to be “your source for the latest alt rock.”  I’m still trying to figure out if it’s a Coldplay cover.

#38 = Saint Motel

Saint Motel is an alternative band from Los Angeles, California.  The group has a few EP’s to their credit and released their only studio album Voyeur back in 2012.  The quartet has recently been placed in heavy rotation on that progressive pop station Alt Nation Sirius/XM channel 36 with the single “My Type.”  Watch the vid below, good luck getting all the way through.  Kinda sounds like a really bad Franz Ferdinand tune.
