HAIM Nominated For Grammy Award & Most Shazamed

14/12/10 at 12.02pm   /   by deepster19   /   1 Comment

Este HaimThe HAIM sisters, who are currently in the process of taking over the world, have added a Grammy Award nomination to their list of accolades over the last two plus years.  The fine folks over at the Grammys, who spend most of their existence residing on Mars, have returned home to compile the list of 2015 nominees.  The Los Angeles based band HAIM was nominated for Best New Artist, despite exploding on the indie music scene back in 2012 with their infectious single “Forever.”  The girls will have some stiff competition from the likes of Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clark, and Sammy Smith.

Furthermore, it was recently revealed that HAIM had the most Shazamed indie tune in 2014 for the track “If I Could Change Your Mind.”  Coincidentally, I just named that tune as my #69 song of the year for 2014.  Check out the entire Shazamed list here.  Lists are fun!  Best Of Luck to Alana, Danielle, and Este (pictured) at the 2015 Grammy Awards.  The Grammys will air on February 8th on CBS.

Take a trip in the wayback machine and enjoy “Forever” here:

Top Albums For The Week Of December 2, 2014

14/12/06 at 12.36pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

NotsHere’s the weekly Top 20 College Radio Albums from the Radio 200 list published by CMJ (College Media Journal). The reputable rag surveys up to 600 college radio stations of a weekly basis to compute the list.

In addition, here’s my Spicy Six Albums of the week. These are the six albums that can’t find their way out of my six disc changer. The list consists of my Top 5 Albums of the week, and one Heritage Album that’s worth dusting off and giving a listen.

Here’s the lists:
No change at the top of the College Radio Album Chart, and very little change within the Top 20.  TV On The Radio holds the #1 spot for a second week, and only two new albums enter the countdown.  The debut release from the Memphis, Tennessee postpunk outfit Nots (pictured) comes in at #20, while yet another album from Ty Segall enters the entire Top 200 at #15.  2:54 is still the #1 disc in my compact disc changer.  This week the Pixies released Doolittle 25, in order to celebrate, well, to celebrate more money for the band.

Purity Ring Returns With Track “Push Pull”

14/12/06 at 10.12am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Purity RingAbout a week ago I said to myself, whatever happened to Purity Ring, and just like that they reappear with the track “Push Pull.”  The last time we heard from the Canadian synth-pop duo of Megan James and Corin Roddick was back in 2012 when the two shared their debut release Shrines.  I suggest blowing the dust off your Purity Ring cloud and revisiting what made Purity Ring a pleasant surprise back in 2012.  Rumor has a 2015 release for the groups forthcoming sophomore effort.

Give “Push Pull” a listen below:

Top Albums For The Week Of November 25, 2014

Here’s the lists:
After spending two weeks in the top spot, Caribou falls to #2.   “Seeds,” the fifth studio album from TV On The Radio (pictured) takes over at #1.  Five albums are new to the countdown this week, one of which is from the Australian psychedelic seven-piece that call themselves King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, how fun!  Also new to the Top 20 is the supergroup The New Basement Tapes, the group consists of Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens, Taylor Goldsmith, Jim James and Marcus Mumford, the album was produced by T Bone Burnett.  Chaz Bundick is the mastermind behind Toro Y Moi, his latest project is called Les Sins, and “Michael” is the first release under that moniker.  Ariel Pink’s first release without his band The Haunted Graffiti jumps 126 spots to come in at #11.  The final new album to debut in the Top 20 is a reissue from Flake Music.  The band Flake Music was a five-piece that formed in 1992 by James Mercer, and released their only album “When You Land Here, It’s Time To Return” in 1997.  Four of the members of Flake Music would go on to form the original line-up of The Shins.  New at the top of my Spicy Six is the sophomore album from the London based band 2:54.  Anyone catch the documentary R.E.M. By MTV?  When was the last last time you listened to “Out Of Time?”

Coachella 2015 Perfect Poster Wish List

14/11/27 at 12.01am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Thanksgiving imageAs I sit here writing this post, I should probably be counting the things that I’m thankful for; instead I’m counting up the bands that are on my Coachella 2015 Perfect Poster Wish List.  Thanksgiving Day has always been the official start of Coachella Season, why should this year be any different?

Over the past few months, I’ve been compiling a list of bands that I want to see play the 2015 Coachella Music Festival, through my posts.  Until Coachella unveils the official line-up, I will continue to make Frequent Updates to my Perfect Poster.  By no means is this a prediction or confirmation list, that exercise is conducted by the fine folks over at the Consequence Of Sound.  In order for a band to be added to the poster, I must mention the band in an upcoming post.  Remember, my game my rules.  Below is a list of bands that have already been mentioned and are on my Wish List.  All Systems Go.
