Bloc Party announced that they will release new music in the form of an EP titled The Nextwave Sessions on August 13. The five track EP consists of tunes that were recorded on their lengthy world tour in support of their latest release Four. One track that can consistently be found on recent setlists is “Ratchet” (watch video below).
Despite the new release, Bloc Party will follow through with an indefinite hiatus scheduled to commence following the July 19th headlining appearance at the Latitude Festival in the UK. This comes on the heels of a hiatus that lasted four years prior to the release of 2012’s Four. Either we should get used to indefinite hiatuses or this signals the beginning of the end of Bloc Party. Citing bad working relationships, lack of communication, not enjoying what they were doing, side projects, and no ‘positive tension’ caused hiatus 1. The band’s guitarist Russell Lissack said relationship have improved during the current tour, however, hiatus 2 was something that was in the plans.
The British indie rockers career has consisted of four full length albums:
Silent Alarm 2005
A Weekend In The City 2007
Intimacy 2008
Four 2012
In the meantime, if you want to listen to Gang Of Four listen to Gang Of Four….. however, if you want to listen to Bloc Party, it may take awhile after August 13.
