Saturday night at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix, a few hundred fans were lucky enough to see the Peter Murphy, the “Godfather of Goth” at a sold out show.
The band “Ours” opened the night with the voice of Jimmy Gnecco who sounded like a young and fresh U2. “We’re just checking out the the sound for Peter”, Gnecco humbly says. Check out their latest release “Ballet the Boxer 1”.
During the break we got a sneak peek of Peter’s new project “Lion” which is being produced by Youth from Killing Joke.
Then Peter came out with his band and got going. The crowd a mix of young and old, some Goth, some not. Many of the classic Bauhaus tunes were belted out by a seasoned performer who is self-proclaimed as “(David) Bowie, Iggy (Pop), Frank Sinatra, Elvis (Presley) all rolled into one”. Classically dressed in leather pants and a smoking jacket with a furry collar, Mr Moonlight kicked out one after another with witty banter in between songs making light of his recent run-in. Peter broke out his melodica for “She’s in Parties” and other songs. For the encore, Hollow Hills really got the crowd going and polished the night off with Ziggy Stardust.
