New to the blog in 2014 is a weekly piece featuring the Top Albums of the week. Each week (like it or not), I will post the Top 20 College Radio Albums taken from the Radio 200 list published by CMJ (College Media Journal). The reputable rag surveys up to 600 college radio stations of a weekly basis to compute the list.
If that’s not enough… I will give you my Spicy Six Albums of the week. These are the six albums that can’t find their way out of my six disc changer. The list will consist of my Top 5 Albums of the week, and one Heritage Album that’s worth dusting off and giving a listen.
Here’s this week’s lists:
Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings remain at #1 on college radio, while five new albums make their appearance in the top 20. Mogwai’s
latest album “Rave Tapes” is the biggest mover, jumping 79 spots this week to #6.
There’s a new #1 on Spicy Radio, as the full-length debut by San Francisco’s Painted Palms (pictured) replaces Sky Ferreira. Many comparisons out there to Animal Collective, but I’m also hearing some Yeasayer similarities. Decide for yourself.
