Over the next 11 weeks I’ll dig deep into the 2014 Coachella Music Festival lineup, featuring one band per day. The purpose of this piece is to assist in difficult decisions that inevitably you’ll need to make, as well as, serve as a fun countdown to Coachella Week. Note: All bands appear in a completely random order… Enjoy, and let the countdown continue!
Day 50 = City and Colour
Performing = Saturday
Dallas Green is a Canadian singer-songwriter that uses the moniker City and Colour. The Ontario based musician is the former singer and guitarist for the defunct hardcore band Alexisonfire. Mr. Green’s current folk act started out as an acoustic solo side project in 2004. When he takes his show on the road he usually recruits a rotating cast of Canadian indie rock characters. The name City and Colour simply comes from his name, Dallas (city) and Green (color), or the fancy way Green spells it, colour.
By now your asking yourself… When did the former manager of the Philadelphia Phillies get into post-hardcore and indie-folk music? Never, the 79 year-old Green is still in baseball, working as an assistant to General Manager in Philly. It appears as if Mr. Green received one of those lifetime contracts.
The City and Colour has released four studio album over the last ten years:
Sometimes (2005)
Bring Me Your Love (2008)
Little Hell (2011)
The Hurry and The Harm (2013)
Apparently, the City and Colour is way bigger in Canada than anywhere else in the world, his albums along with most of his singles have fared well on the mainstre m and rock charts only up in The True North.
