Over the next 11 weeks I’ll dig deep into the 2014 Coachella Music Festival lineup, featuring one band per day. The purpose of this piece is to assist in difficult decisions that inevitably you’ll need to make, as well as, serve as a fun countdown to Coachella Week. Note: All bands appear in a completely random order… Enjoy, and let the countdown continue!
Day 51 = The Toy Dolls
Performing = Sunday
The Toy Dolls are an English punk rock band that formed in 1979. Amazingly, Mr. Heritage himself has never heard of these dudes until he began researching all of the acts on this year’s poster. I thought it would be interesting to go over some of the Fun Facts that I stumbled upon about the band.
The Toy Dolls Fun Facts:
* 24 former members of the band, you read that right, 24.
* 16 studio albums released.
* 15 singles, none of which you’ve probably ever heard of.
* 14 different drummers.
* 12 different bassists (not one named Kim).
* 3 current members
* 1 original member remains (Michael Algar)
What do you think possesses Mr. Algar to continue on with this outfit? The band is allegedly best known for a cover of the theme song from the children’s U.K. television show “Nellie The Elephant.” Back when the poster first was revealed, I was reading a post on a U.K. blog about the Coachella 2014 line-up (the name of it escapes me), concerning the The Toy Dolls. The person said “I can’t believe The Toy Dolls are on line 3 at the Coachella Festival, they couldn’t sellout the back room a local pub in their hometown of Sunderland.”
