The fine folks up in Portland, Oregon, led by Mayor Charles Hales, have declared January 20 Decemberists Day, in honor of the indie-folk band. Mr. Hales stated The Decemberists “embody the Portland values of passion, engagement, and communitarianism with the Portland aesthetic of homegrown, forthright, slightly hippie, and often bespectacled glory.” The festivities at the City Hall were to include; a performance from the band, as well as the unveiling of a collaborative art piece inspired by The Decemberists that was created by 50 local Portland artists and small businesses. Furthermore, a proclamation will be presented to the band.
The band released their seventh studio album today, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World. Last week, the band released a lyric video for the album-track “A Beginning Song” (watch below).
Sadly, the group is not playing the 2015 Coachella Festival, but they are hitting San Diego for a show at the North Park Theatre on April 30.
