The Coachella Poster, Two Months Later

16/03/11 at 11.17am   /   by deepster19   /   1 Comment

Coachella 2016 PosterIn case you missed it, the organizers of the Coachella Music Festival released the lineup for their two-weekend event approximately two months ago.  The trendy thing to do would’ve been to discuss the lineup the morning after its release, but I’ve chosen to let it marinate for two months as my laptop screensaver before commenting prematurely.

After much consideration, nothing’s changed.  If you enjoyed the 2013 edition of the fest, you’ll love 2016!  Why’s that? Because the 2016 poster looks like Paul Tollett threw up the undercard of the 2013 poster and increased the font size every so slightly.  Speaking of the poster, orange is a fun color splash.  Don’t get me wrong, 2016 is a solid lineup, if you didn’t attend in 2013.

One of the negative things about attending the Coachella Festival every year is that you see the same recycled acts every few years… Wait a second, there’s nothing negative about attending the festival every year or checking out a band you’ve already seen before.  The festival is about your greatest four day escape from the real world each year.  Like I say every year, If you can’t find 8 to 10 bands you really want to check out each day of the fest, stay home and watch 8 to 10 acts you don’t want to see on TV.  All the while, Jason Bentley teases you that I’m there and your not.

LushAs I said, the lineup is solid.  Guns n’ Roses and Lush (pictured) were great “gets.”  LCD Soundsystem, albeit playing every festival on the planet this year, Coachella gets them first, like they always do.  Not to mention, some of today’s great live acts are on the poster such as FOALS, Savages and M83.  In addition, a few bands-on-the-come are present, those include  Wolf Alice, DMA’s, Young Fathers and HAELOS.  I read on one of those more reputable blogs that Mr. Tollett doesn’t book on genre, he books the festival on what’s trending.  Really, what’s trending? Then where’s Animal Collective?  Belly and Wolf Parade would’ve been a nice “gets” too.  Late adds? Sorry to disappoint the Coachella message board, but there’s no more acts being added to that lineup, well maybe a couple of Coachella house bands are possible, Alf Alfie and The Black Keys.  How about the “Sunday headliner is TBA” narrative… seriously? Sunday’s headliner is Calvin Fucking Harris.  Have fun watching that act from all the way back at the merch tent.  Drones will have a field day capturing images of the most attended show in Coachella history, sorry Kaskade.

I’ll be discussing the lineup in more detail in the upcoming weeks as I count down my Top 40 must-see acts on the poster.  Yeah, that tired act is back for another season, like anybody gives a shit who my Top 40 must-see acts really are.

As for the fear of catching bed bugs and wasting time at Panera, now those are interesting topics for another day.  I think I just came up with a really cool band name….. The Fear Of Catching Bed Bugs.
