GoINDEEpMusic Turns 3

16/06/02 at 7.36am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

third bdayWell, the blog has been up and running for 3 years.

Moving forward, the site will continue to post New Indie Releases, Indie Bands On Late Night Television, Monthly Mixtapes, and Coachella related stories.  That’s about all I have time for these days.

Occasionally, I’ll mix in some news about Heritage Acts, whether you like it or not.  You can always count on the year end lists as well.

Maybe this is the year I connect the site with social media, but probably not.

Thanks for looking,

-Dave

Spoon To Perform At Birthday Bash Tonight!

15/06/02 at 6.00am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Happy Birthday 2Allow me to be the first to wish myself a Happy Birthday.  Today this blog turns 2 years old.  Over the last year, I’ve continued my commitment to the Coachella Music Festival, indie music on late night television, relevant new indie releases, and keeping tabs on the weekly College Radio Album Chart.

Who knows where this blog is going, or why I even continue with it in the first place, but it still remains fun, and that’s all that really matters.

To celebrate the blog turning 2, I’ve arranged for a birthday bash tonight at the North Park Theatre in downtown San Diego.   Austin, Texas indie stalwarts Spoon have agreed to provide the entertainment tonight.

Spoon imageFestivities will commence around 6pm with some IPA’s and Burgers at a yet to be announced watering hole.  The North Park Theatre will open their doors at 7pm, with fellow Austin band Sweet Spirit scheduled to take the stage at 8pm, in support of the main event, Spoon.

Amazingly, tickets still remain for the band’s second of two nights in San Diego.

Spoon is scheduled to perform on Conan O’Brien on Wednesday night.

Here’s a few notable fun facts from year two of the blog:
* 2014 Album Of The Year = Spoon They Want My Soul
* 2014 Track Of The Year = Bear In Heaven “Time Between”
* Best Performance at 2015 Coachella = Jack White
* 286 total posts
* 286 total posts by me
* 6 references made to alt-country

Here’s a couple of Spoon videos:

R.I.P. Slicing Up Eyeballs

15/05/04 at 9.03am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Slicing Up EyeballsOn Sunday, Matt Sebastian sadly announced that he is retiring from the music blogosphere and closing up shop at the well-respected website Slicing Up Eyeballs.

Checking Matt’s site has been a daily part of my life since I discovered his same passion for eighties college rock and vintage alternative music back in 2009.  Mr. Sebastian’s site allowed many of his followers to reconnect with band’s that were an integral part of one’s life while growing up in the eighties.

Matt, thank you for dedication to your site, as well as your passion for keeping the celebration of eighties college rock music alive over the last 6 years, I’m going to miss it.  Read Matt’s farewell post here.  Let the rumors of a Slicing Up Eyeballs reunion begin.

Can’t Hardly Wait

As I wrote approximately two months ago the Heritage of all Heritage Celebrations would be the one WHEN The Replacements reunite. WHEN happens to be today! The Replacements announced today that they will headline three Riot Fest dates; Toronto (August 24-25), Chicago (September 13-14-15), and Denver (September 21-22).

More Carles this week on XMU

Carles from Hipster Runoff, everyone’s favorite blog radio DJ is expanding his role with North America’s Indie Rock Station this week. Carles will be filling in for Julia who has the week off. Carles will hit the XMU airwaves from 4 to 9pm Pacific Time spinning a blend of the latest indie buzzbands, chillwave and boring cool Dad music. This should make for a fun and interesting week of indie satellite radio.

Carles can be heard every Monday from 9am to Noon and 9pm to midnight Pacific Time with his ever-popular Hipster Runoff radio show. Julia, Josiah, and Jenny LSQ may want to reconsider taking time off in the future, however Jake Fogelnest can take as much time off as he likes.
