The Charlatans UK Announce New Album “Modern Nature”

14/10/22 at 1.18pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

The CharlatansSomeday when there’s more time, I’ll begin counting down my Top 365 bands of all-time.  Rest assured, the legendary baggy band The Charlatans will be in my Top 10.

The Charlatans confirmed this week that their first album since the passing of original drummer Jon Brookes will be released on January 26 in the U.K., it remains to be seen if the U.S. release will follow that schedule.  Mr. Brookes passed away in 2013 from brain cancer.

The forthcoming album entitled Modern Nature, is the follow-up to 2010’s Who We Touch.  It was in 2010 that Brookes collapsed on stage in Philadelphia, and later diagnosed with a brain tumor.  The band says that “Jon was adamant that there was going to be another Charlatans record,” he said, “and you have to put that into your own thoughts.”  Modern Nature features three drummers, Pete Salisbury of The Verve Fame, Stephen Morris of New Order, and Gabriel Gurnsey of Factory Floor.  For the time being, Salisbury will act as the touring drummer.

The band has a handful of U.K. dates lined up for March 2015, this will set up perfectly for a 2015 Coachella appearance in April.  Add The Charlatans to my 2015 Coachella Perfect Poster Wish List.

A few week ago the band dropped a video for the lead track “Talking In Tones” from the upcoming album, view it below.  The track “So Oh” will be the first single released from the album, look for it on December 1.  For those that have not followed the band’s career since their amazing 1989 debut Some Friendly, this will be their twelfth studio album, who knew? except me.

  • Tracklist:
  • 1. Talking In Tones
  • 2. So Oh
  • 3. Come Home Baby
  • 4. Keep Enough
  • 5. In The Tall Grass
  • 6. Emilie
  • 7. Let The Good Times Be Never Ending
  • 8. I Need You To Know
  • 9. Lean In
  • 10. Trouble

Pixies To Revisit “Doolittle” … Yet Again

14/10/16 at 10.20am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Pixies DoolittleApparently, the 20-year Anniversary celebration of the Pixies classic album “Doolittle” did not produce the revenue numbers to Frank Black’s liking.  The band recently announced plans to reissue the “Doolittle” album in a special expanded 25th anniversary edition.

The new “Doolittle” is scheduled to drop on December 2 and be made available on 2LP’s, 3 compact discs, or for those that can’t stand anything physical, digital form.  The expanded edition is said to include 50 tracks, in other words, the 15 original tracks from “Doolittle” and 35 different variations of those tunes.

Maybe what the band will to do is; tour the world two times over playing “Doolittle” is its entirety for the next four years selling t-shirts that shrink 2 sizes after the first wash… wait, they already did that.

In all seriousness this is what can be found on the expanded “Doolittle.”

turntable1The following albums dropped today and are available in your local trendy record store or on digital download.

Showcase Album Of The Week

KASABIAN  “48:13”

After waiting nearly four months for its domestic release, the fifth studio album from Leicester lads KASABIAN has landed.  The album’s title is precisely the amount of time it take to listen to the thing straight through, but who does that anymore besides me.  Tom, Serge, and Co. are currently on a brief North American tour and decided to bring the album personally here for its release.  48:13 is as solid an album as any of the previous four KASABIAN releases.  Tunes such as “Bumblebee,” “Stevie,” “Treat,” and “Eez-eh” are instant sing-along bouncy anthems.  The two closing tracks on the album, “Bow” and “S.P.S” are interestingly different, yet some of KASABIAN’s best work to date.

Listen to “Stevie” here:

Download  “48:13”

Here’s the rest:

Caribou  “Our Love”

Composer and musician Dan Snaith is releasing his sixth studio album under the moniker Caribou.  This is the follow-up to 2010’s “Swim.”  Caribou is not only a great tune by the Pixies, its also fun to pronounce in syllables.  The video for the title track “Our Love” surfaced this week, watch it below.

“Our Love”

Download  “our Love” here:

Johnny Marr  “Playland”

The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr wasted no time in following-up his 2013 release The Messanger.  Mr. Marr’s album Playland was not named after the kid experience located in Legion Keener in Latrobe, Pennsylvania near the band shell.

Watch the video for “Easy Money” here:

Download  “Playland” here:

Zola Jesus  “Taiga”

Nika Roza Danilova, better known by her stage name Zola Jesus, is releasing her fifth studio album.  Ms. Jesus is a an electronic art-pop act that uses experimental rock influences, you’ll have to take my word on that.  Her last album Versions was released one short year ago.

Pixies Share Video For “Ring The Bell”

14/09/20 at 7.40am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

PixiesIn advance of their brief 11 dates in North America set to begin next Saturday night in San Diego, Frank Black and Co. have emerged with a video for “Ring The Bell.”  Also included on the tour is a night at the Hollywood Bowl next Sunday, as well as a string of four dates in Canada in early October.  Currently tickets still remain for nine of the eleven shows, that will happen when tickets are way overpriced.

“Ring The Bell” joins the collection of tracks from the band’s latest album Indie Cindy that the Pixies took time out of their busy schedule to make a video for.  Actually, two fans, Lital Mizel and Adi Frimmerman directed and appear in the video, read all about it here.  I think there’s only one more tune from Indy Cindy that needs a video, but I’m not the person who keeps track of things like that, so I could be wrong.  To clear up ongoing confusion about the tune “Ring The Bell,” it’s not a cover of the Anita Ward disco classic.

Watch “Ring The Bell” here:

Surprise! U2 Drops New Album “Songs Of Innocence”

14/09/11 at 8.44pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

U2 Songs Of InnocenceBono and Company pulled a page out of the Frank Black book of surprises.  The Irish power-pop band surprised everyone on earth Tuesday morning, except those associated with inner circle at Apple Inc,  by dropping their latest studio album exclusively on iTunes.  U2 and Apple have teamed up for the world’s largest album release in history… allegedly.

However, much of the level of surprise came from the fact the album showed up on iPhones whether you wanted the album or not, and for free no less.  Internet and social media outrage is in full force, most of which is centered around whether the Heritage Act has the right to take up valuable space on one’s mobile phone.  On the other hand, the quartet has received positive reviews, and many fans appreciate the group’s generosity during these tough economic times.  What side of the fence are you on?

For those that do not possess an iPhone, simply log on the your iTunes account and download “Songs Of Innocence” for free.  Individuals without an ITunes account can wait until October 13 when the album receives a physical release.

Bone released this statement on the band’s website about the release:

“People who haven’t heard our music, or weren’t remotely interested, might play us for the first time because we’re in their library,” he writes. “And for the people out there who have no interest in checking us out, look at it this way… the blood, sweat and tears of some Irish guys are in your junk mail.”

“Songs of Innocence” tracklisting:

01 The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)
02 Every Breaking Wave
03 California (There Is No End To Love)
04 Song For Someone
05 Iris (Hold Me Close)
06 Volcano
07 Raised By Wolves
08 Cedarwood Road
09 Sleep Like A Baby Tonight
10 This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now
11 The Troubles.
