Ex-Pixies touring bassist Kim Shattuck revealed an incident to U.K. Rag NME yesterday that she claims led to her firing. Ms.
Shattuck alleges that her “overly enthusiastic” behavior at the Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles way back on September 12, was the beginning of the end to her Pixies career.
Call me crazy but….. I think there might have been slightly more to it.
Read all about Shattuck’s side of the story below (courtesy of NME):
“I was surprised. Everything had gone well, the reviews were all good and the fans were super-nice about everything. They were like, ‘We love you, New Kim!’ We said goodbye at the airport and the following morning the manager called me and said: ‘The band has made the decision to go with another bass player. I was shocked.”
“I get the feeling they’re more introverted people than I am. Nobody really talked about deep issues, at least out loud. There was a show at the Mayan in Los Angeles where I got overly enthusiastic and jumped into the crowd, and I know they weren’t thrilled about that. When I got offstage the manager told me not to do that again. I said, ‘Really, for my own safety?’ And he said, ‘No, because the Pixies don’t do that.”‘
“I would have preferred if they told me face to face,” Shattuck said, “but they’re
nice people.”
The Pixies appointed Paz Lenchantin as their new touring bassist earlier this week.

Best Coast, the indie rock duo of Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno have released a video for the track “This Lonely Morning.” The song is off the band’s latest effort Fade Away. Rolling Stone Magazine recently named Fade Away as the 35th best album of 2013. The album is actually a Mini LP slash EP, so wouldn’t that make it the #1 Mini LP slash EP of 2013? Best Coast will soon embark upon a supporting spot on the Pixies North American tour.

Seems like its been 24 hours of nonstop Sky Ferreira. The indie hipstress began her whirlwind day by performing on Late Night With David Letterman, and then sharing with the world her video for the title track from her recently released debut album “Night Time, My Time.” I’ve given the debut album a few spins… and I must say it’s surprisingly decent. Later in the day the busy beaver released the B-Sides // Part 1 Collection which includes 3 non-album tracks.
The day concluded with Ms. Ferreira announcing that she will not, I repeat will not, be appearing at the 2014 Coachella Festival. Instead, she will accept a supporting role on the Miley Cyrus upcoming arena tour.

By now, everyone should be fully aware that I can’t get enough of the Glasgow, Scotland band CHVRCHES. Their full-length debut The Bones Of What You Believe, is truly electro-pop at its finest. The album remains in heavy rotation in my compact disc player since it was released back on September 20. The band’s latest video is for the track “Lies” (watch below). Could this be my Album Of The Year???

The following albums dropped today and are available in your local trendy record stores or on digital download.
The Canadian collective release their follow-up to the Grammy Award-winning album The Suburbs. The buildup of hype and hysteria over this release is enough to make Daft Punk jealous. Things have gotten so crazy for the group that Rolling Stone calls the most important band of the last decade; that they had to change their name to the Reflektors temporarily. The Reflektors have gigs scheduled here in L.A. tonight at Capitol Records and Thursday at the Palladium.

Lucky Ducks living in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area were treated on Sunday night to the video premiere of The Dandy Warhols film 13 Songs In 13 Places, at the Hollywood Theatre in NE Portland. One of my beloved bands, are currently celebrating the 13th anniversary of the release of their classic album Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia.
