Tears For Fears – Belly Up Tavern – Solana Beach – Tonight!!!

Shout, Shout, Let It All Out!

GoINDEEpMusic will be out at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach tonight for an evening with Tears For Fears. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith will bring their eighties synthpop to San Diego County’s premiere live music venue.

I was lucky enough to check my electronic mail the moment the show was announced and scooped up a ticket immediately. Tickets went like hot cakes within minutes, so if you hesitated, you’re shit out of luck.

I’ve adored this band from the moment I heard songs from their 1983 release The Hurting. I can remember laying in bed listening to Rock Over London when I first heard songs like “Change” and “Pale Shelter.” For those unfamiliar with Rock Over London, it was a syndicated radio program that usually aired sometime around midnight on Sunday night back in the eighties. The show offered up some of the best British music that wasn’t available here in the States at the time. After a lengthy kickass playlist, the show would conclude with the Top 5 songs on the U.K. charts that particular week. The show is fully responsible for my love and appreciation of the British bands of the early to mid eighties, especially Tears For Fears. I used to go to mall and ask the clueless associates working at National Record Mart, “do you have any Tears For Fears?” and they would always respond with “never heard of them.”

By the time band release the 1985 follow-up LP Songs From The Big Chair, their music became slightly more accessible and I was first in line to pick up a copy of SFTBC on cassette tape. Here’s a fun fact about DJ Deep, the first compact disc I ever purchased after adding a CD player to my stereo system was The Hurting. Tonight’s show is a long time coming… I’ve never seen TFF before, and I can’t believe I will be taking it all in at my favorite live music venue, the Belly Up Tavern. No word if there’s an opening act tonight. Can’t wait!

Two weeks ago, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their blockbuster album “Songs From The Big Chair,” Tears For Fears convened in the historic LA Studio The Village to perform some of their biggest hits for an intimate audience of 50 superfans. HAIM Nominated For Grammy Award & Most Shazamed

The HAIM sisters, who are currently in the process of taking over the world, have added a Grammy Award nomination to their list of accolades over the last two plus years. The fine folks over at the Grammys, who spend most of their existence residing on Mars, have returned home to compile the list of 2015 nominees. The Los Angeles based band HAIM was nominated for Best New Artist, despite exploding on the indie music scene back in 2012 with their infectious single “Forever.” The girls will have some stiff competition from the likes of Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clark, and Sammy Smith.

Furthermore, it was recently revealed that HAIM had the most Shazamed indie tune in 2014 for the track “If I Could Change Your Mind.” Coincidentally, I just named that tune as my #69 song of the year for 2014. Purity Ring Returns With Track “Push Pull”

About a week ago I said to myself, whatever happened to Purity Ring, and just like that they reappear with the track “Push Pull.” The last time we heard from the Canadian synth-pop duo of Megan James and Corin Roddick was back in 2012 when the two shared their debut release Shrines. I suggest blowing the dust off your Purity Ring cloud and revisiting what made Purity Ring a pleasant surprise back in 2012. Rumor has a 2015 release for the groups forthcoming sophomore effort.

The Decemberists Share Video For “Lake Song”

The Decemberists have shared a lyric video for the track “Lake Song,” the second single from the band’s much-anticipated forthcoming album What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World, scheduled for release on January 20. “Lake Song” follows the perfect first single “Make You Better” which surfaced about a month ago. Enjoy both videos below.

I have The Decemberists on my Coachella Perfect Poster Wish List, but based on the announced tour dates a Coachella appearance is impossible. Looks like I’ll have to catch them another time. I’ll keep you updated when more dates are announce.

TV On The Radio “Seeds”

The much-anticipated fifth studio album from TVOTR has finally arrived! This is the follow-up to the 2011 release Nine Types Of Light, and first since the death of bassist Gerald Smith. I have always dug this band, and I’ve seen them 3 times. That’s not going to stop me from catching them again, add TVOTR to my 2015 Coachella Perfect Poster Wish List. The track “Happy Idiot” is a great fucking tune. Check it out below.

All 3 of the bands featured this week in New Music Tuesday are on my 2015 Coachella Perfect Poster Wish List; 2:54, Parkay Quarts, and Tears For Fears. There’s another release this week from some band called Pink Floyd, if they happen to end up on line 1 at the 2015 Coachella Festival that not only would be cool but also hilarious. I would expect a track by track review of the new Pink Floyd album from contributing writer Present-Tense any minute now.

2:54 “The Other I”

2:54 is a London based indie rock band comprised of the Thurlow sisters, Colette and Hannah. If you don’t know who they are, shame on you ! This is the shoegazers sophomore release, and is the follow-up to the 2012 self-titled debut. We showed you the track “Orion” a few months back, and below is the latest single “Blindfold.”

Parkay Quarts “Content Nausea”

Over the last 2 years, this is one of my fave indie bands. This is the Brooklyn band’s second release in 2014. The other one, Sunbathing Animal, was released under the moniker Parquet Courts. One of the things I like about these dudes is they don’t give a shit, they just make good music. Presently, the band goes by Parkay Quarts, Parquet Courts, and PCPC. How fun!

Tears For Fears

“Songs From The Big Chair” (Re-Issue)

Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, a.k.a. Tears For Fears, are reissuing their 1985 classic album Songs From The Big Chair in a 6-disc box set. I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing TFF and I’m hoping for a Midnight set on the Mojave stage at next April’s Coachella Festival.
