Surprise! U2 Drops New Album “Songs Of Innocence”

14/09/11 at 8.44pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

U2 Songs Of InnocenceBono and Company pulled a page out of the Frank Black book of surprises.  The Irish power-pop band surprised everyone on earth Tuesday morning, except those associated with inner circle at Apple Inc,  by dropping their latest studio album exclusively on iTunes.  U2 and Apple have teamed up for the world’s largest album release in history… allegedly.

However, much of the level of surprise came from the fact the album showed up on iPhones whether you wanted the album or not, and for free no less.  Internet and social media outrage is in full force, most of which is centered around whether the Heritage Act has the right to take up valuable space on one’s mobile phone.  On the other hand, the quartet has received positive reviews, and many fans appreciate the group’s generosity during these tough economic times.  What side of the fence are you on?

For those that do not possess an iPhone, simply log on the your iTunes account and download “Songs Of Innocence” for free.  Individuals without an ITunes account can wait until October 13 when the album receives a physical release.

Bone released this statement on the band’s website about the release:

“People who haven’t heard our music, or weren’t remotely interested, might play us for the first time because we’re in their library,” he writes. “And for the people out there who have no interest in checking us out, look at it this way… the blood, sweat and tears of some Irish guys are in your junk mail.”

“Songs of Innocence” tracklisting:

01 The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)
02 Every Breaking Wave
03 California (There Is No End To Love)
04 Song For Someone
05 Iris (Hold Me Close)
06 Volcano
07 Raised By Wolves
08 Cedarwood Road
09 Sleep Like A Baby Tonight
10 This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now
11 The Troubles.

The Vines  “Wicked Nature”

Speaking of a blast from the past, The Vines have resurfaced with their sixth studio.  Yep, sixth, I completely missed the three album that dropped after their 2004 sophomore effort Winning Days.  I’m interested to hear what these dudes sound like now, they had such a promising start to their career.

Watch Bear In Heaven Video For “Autumn”

14/08/30 at 9.20pm   /   by deepster19   /   2 Comments

Bear In HeavenOne of the most underrated albums that I’ve come across this year is from the Brooklyn based experimental pop outfit Bear In Heaven.  The band’s fourth studio album Time Is Over One Day Old was released earlier this month, and I can’t get enough of it.  The album is currently my #1 album of the week on my Spicy Six CD’s list.  Earlier this summer the group released the first single, the spectacular track “Time Between.”  This week the trio shared the incredible  follow-up, “Autumn,” the lead track from the album.  Both of these tunes are fantastic and sure to make my favorite tracks list at the end of the year.  Enjoy both videos below and decide which one you think is best.  Do your ears a favor and pick up a Time Is Over One Day Old, you can thank me later.

Enjoy the video for “Autumn” here:

MTV Premieres Documentary “No Cameras Allowed”

14/08/29 at 4.13pm   /   by deepster19   /   2 Comments

MTVMTV, your source for all things music….. will premiere the documentary “No Cameras Allowed” tonight (Friday August 29) at 7pm West Coast Time.  The movie follows James Marcus Haney as he provides details on how to get into some of the worlds best music festivals without a ticket.  What’s more, dude not only gets in for free, but also finds himself backstage with some of the biggest acts on the festival circuit today.  As mentioned, the show is on MTV, if you haven’t watched MTV since the days of 120 Minutes, it can be found on channel 331 on DIRECTV, or check local listings.  If your cable provider doesn’t offer MTV… dial them up and  say I WANT MY MTV!

I’ll be watching, maybe Mr. Haney will provide some insight on how the HAIM sisters never paid for Coachella in their life.

Overview of the documentary courtesy of MTV:

NO CAMERAS ALLOWED is a documentary that follows James Marcus Haney’s journey of breaking into music festivals and inserting himself into the world of some of the biggest names in the industry – Mumford & Sons, Jay-Z, and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. But Marcus isn’t your average “festie” kid. He’s a guy with a love of photography and filmmaking and a deep passion that drives him to do nearly anything to see his favorite bands perform. Often using his camera as a prop to sneak into festivals, Marcus ultimately comes away with raw and intimate footage that impresses even his world famous subjects. Marcus puts his future – and his love – on the line for a chance to tour with Mumford & Sons, leaving the only place he’s ever called home and embarking on a cross country road trip. As Ted Dwane, Bassist for Mumford & Sons, puts it “the access and perspective he is so hungry for is what makes his images so unique and compelling and the force that propels this behavior is deep within him and pure.” It is indeed this drive that makes his quest so innocently unadulterated, separating him from the others, and allowing him in when he really should have been kicked out. No Cameras Allowed is an intimate, honest, behind the scenes look at world-renowned artists from the perspective of someone who was never really invited, but was always asked to stay.

Broken BellsJames Mercer and Danger Mouse aka Broken Bells have released a video for the track “Control,” from the group’s 2014 release After The Disco.  The two have been touring relentlessly since the album’s release, and have two nights booked at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles in late October.  I haven’t spun this compact disc all summer, shame on me, but I’m positive After The Disco will be included in my top albums of the year when the time comes.
