Pearl Jam launch a “Lightning Bolt”

PearlJamWideUseBWInstruments

Has it really been four years since “Backspacer”? It actually feels longer. I’ve celebrated my 5th wedding anniversary, my first child was born, Pearl Jam celebrated their 20th anniversary with PJ20 and a majority of the band members released solo projects. Basically, it’s been a long time. Well the time has been worth it as “Lightning Bolt” is Pearl Jam’s strongest effort in years and for me it launches into the 2nd tier of their overall catalog.

Watch Cut Copy Video “Free Your Mind”

13/10/14 at 9.36pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Basic RGBThe Australian indietronica outfit Cut Copy have shared a video for “Free Your Mind,” the first single and title track from the band’s
forthcoming album. The new album is the follow-up to the 2011 release Zonoscope, and is due in record stores on November 5. Cut Copy
begins a world tour on October 30 with 2 weeks worth of North American dates that includes a stop at the Marquee in Tempe, Arizona on November 6. The tune “Free Your Mind” combines a beautiful blend of circa 1991 Madchester grooves with Italo house beats that screams… holy shit I think I’m listening to the song of the year.

Neutral Milk Hotel Play First Gig in 15 Years

13/10/14 at 9.33pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

neutral_milk_hotelThis past Friday night Neutral Milk Hotel performed their first show in nearly fifteen years with the band’s original line-up. The classic indie fuzz-folk act kicked off the much anticipated reunion tour at 2640 Space in Baltimore, Maryland. The band, led by singer/songwriter Jeff Mangum, have continued to add more tour dates on a regular basis since announcing they were reuniting back in late April. The currently constructed world tour is scheduled to last until June 2014.One glaring omission is the lack of any U.S. west coast dates… You can bet your bottom dollar that Mr. Mangum and company will grace the main stage at the Coachella Music Festival next spring.

Check out the NMH tour dates here.

One quick side note before I begin… I know get a few giggles and rolled eyeballs every time I proclaim that HAIM is the process of taking over the world. Well look who’s at NUMBER 1 on the U.K. album chart…HAIM. The ladies outsold Justin Timberlake (yeah I just said Justin Timberlake on this blog) by 2,100 copies. Finishing third was some guilty pleasure band named Kings Of Leon. Well there you go.

Deap Vally “Sistrionix”

The Los Angeles rock duo of Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards have finally released their full-length debut LP to American ears. This album is guaranteed to be in my top 5 for 2013.

Watch the video “Gonna Make My Own Money” here:

Glasser “Interiors”

Glasser is the moniker for experimental electropop artist Cameron Mesirow. Her sophomore release is the follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut LP Ring.

Check out the video for the track “Design” here:

Download “Interiors” here:

Of Montreal “Lousy With Sylvianbriar”

Athens, Georgia’s finest weirdos return with their twelfth studio release. This is Kevin Barnes and company’s second album in the last year.

Listen to the track “Fugitive Air” here:

Download “Lousy With Sylvianbriar” here:

Sleigh Bells “Bitter Rivals”

It’s always a good day when Sleigh Bells release new music. The Brooklyn, New York noise pop duo of Alexis Krauss and Derek Edward Miller are releasing their third studio album.

Watch the video for the title track “Bitter Rivals” here:

Download “Bitter Rivals” here:

The Fratellis “We Need Medicine”

The Fratellis, yeah The Fratellis… remember them? The Glasgow, Scotland indie rock band are releasing their first album since 2008, and third overall. The first single from the new LP is “Seven Nights Seven Days” (watch it below).

Download “We Need Medicine” here:

Notable EP releases:

HAERTS “Hemiplegia”

HAERTS was featured in the Sunday Spotlight a few weeks back. Read all about them here

Parquet Courts “Tally All The Things That You Broke”

One of the best new bands to emerge on the indie scene over the last year is the Brooklyn, New York post-punk band Parquet Courts. The band released their full-length debut Light Up Gold back in January.

Pixies Release 2014 North American Tour Dates & Premiere Video For “Andro Queen”

13/10/08 at 1.27pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Pixies-2013In what seems to be an endless supply of Pixies news… the band announced Monday morning their plans to tour North America in early 2014. The 33-date tour commences in Toronto on January 15 and concludes on March 1 in Austin (allegedly). Speculation has already started on why Southern California
dates were omitted from the tour schedule. Either the band wore out their welcome when they performed a string of four consecutive nights in Los Angeles last month, or, you guessed it… Indio, California the second and third weekend in April. Tickets for the 2014 dates (see below) go on sale to the general pubic this Friday October 11 at 10am local time, or use the code ANDRO to purchase tickets during the “fan-only” presale. As a special treat, support will be provided by FIDLAR, Cults, and Best Coast throughout the tour. One specific date that I took note of is February 24 in Phoenix, Arizona with Best Coast… just sayin’.

To celebrate the announcement of tour dates the band premiered a video for the song “Andro Queen.” The tune can be found on the recently released EP-1. The band’s plans moving forward are to release a series of EP’s digitally instead of releasing a proper album. The Pixies are currently on tour in Europe through November 25.
