Over the next 11 weeks I’ll dig deep into the 2014 Coachella Music Festival lineup, featuring one band per day. The purpose of this piece is to assist in difficult decisions that inevitably you’ll need to make, as well as, serve as a fun countdown to Coachella Week. Note: All bands appear in a completely random order… Enjoy, and let the countdown continue!

Check out previous day here.

Day 52 = The Preatures
Performing = Friday

The Preatures are a rock band from Sydney, Australia that formed in 2010. Present-Tense will love this… Their style is described as rock-n-roll-gothic-soul with a little bit of R&B and a twist of country thrown in for good measure. Some say it’s like The Velvet Underground came dancing into Motown, while others simply brush it off as HAIM in disguise. As in the case with HAIM, the fucking Fleetwood Mac comparisons are widespread, however with The Preatures, other Heritage Acts such as The Pretenders, Patty Smith, and the aforementioned Velvet Underground are prevalent.

Shortly after forming, the quintet changed their name from The Preachers to The Preatures. The band cited “searchability” as the reason for the switch, the former moniker left Google-savvy-users with a slew of Whitney Houston movie reviews, and an endless supply of religious spam.

The band has two extended plays under their belts, Shaking Hand in 2012, and Is This How You Feel which dropped last summer. Plans are under way for a full-length debut in 2014, but no date has been set.

The Preatures have shown up on numerous Bands On The Come lists for 2014. The group’s groovy vibe alternates between male and female lead vocals on each track. My preference is front-woman Isabella Manfredi, her vocals are extremely infectious, not to mention she’s very easy on the eyes, IMO, decide for yourself in the video “Take A Card” (below), pause it throughout, for the full effect…

The Preatures and HAIM both take the stage on Friday, wouldn’t it be fun if one followed the other on the same stage? It would be like… Hyme vs. Preatures in the HAME BOWL.
