New Music Tuesday June 3, 2014

14/06/05 at 11.27am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

turntable1The following albums dropped today and are available in your local trendy record stores or on digital download.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

“Only Run”

Frontman Alec Ounsworth and drummer Sean Greenhalgh are the only remaining original members, as CYHSY returns with a new cast of characters.  With the new lineup comes a new vibe that’s IMO very Radioheadesque with a hint of U2, decide for yourself.  The first single is “As Always.”

Watch “As Always” here:

Download  “Only Run” here:

Fucked Up  “Glass Boys”

The hardcore Toronto based rockers are releasing their much-anticipated fourth studio album.  This is the follow-up to 2011’s David Comes To Life.  I dig this band’s sound until Damian starts singing, err yelling.

Check out ” Paper The House” here, or not:

Download  “Glass Boys” here:

Hamilton Leithauser  “Black Hours”

Recently, The Walkmen sadly called it quits.  Frontman Hamilton Leithauser began life as a solo artist when the band went on hiatus back in 2011.  This is his debut full-length, and “Alexandra” is the lead single.

Watch the video for “Alexandra” here:

Download  “Black Hours” here:

Parquet Courts  “Sunbathing Animal”

One of my favorite bands to emerge over the last year and a half is Brooklyn based indie rockers Parquet Courts.  Their sophomore release follows last years highly-praised debut Light Up Gold.  The lead single is also titled “Sunbathing Animal.”

Watch “Sunbathing Animal” here:

Download  “Sunbathing Animal” here, you can thank me later:

The Orwells  “Disgraceland”

Chicago teenage indie rockers The Orwells are a band on the come.  They’re releasing the follow-up to Remember When, their debut full-length.  The band teased us last year with two extended plays, all the while pissing off the likes of Arctic Monkey on tour.

Watch the video “Let It Burn” here:

turntable1The following Heritage albums dropped today and are available in your local trendy record store or on digital download.

This is a special Heritage Edition of New Music Tuesday.

Bob Mould  “Beauty & Ruin”

Former Husker Du and Sugar frontman Bob Mould is releasing his eleventh studio album.  This is the follow-up to 2012’s Silver Age.  A video for the track “I Don’t Know You Anymore” surfaced earlier this week, and stars a familiar face to those with beards.

Watch “I Don’t Know You Anymore” here:

Download  “Beauty & Ruin” here:

Camper Van Beethoven  “El Camino Real”

Bay Area natives CVB are releasing the sequel to 2013’s Northern California themed album La Costa Perdida.  The latest project is a Southern California themed album which is their ninth album overall.

Listen to “It Was Like That When We Got Here” here:

Download  “El Camino Real” here:

Echo And The Bunnymen  “Meteorites”

Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant return with their eleventh studio album and first since 2009’s The Fountain.  The album has already produced the singles “Lovers On The Run” and “Holy Moses.”

Watch “Lovers On The Run” here:

Download  “Meteorites” here:

Peter Murphy  “Lion”

What are the chances Echo And The Bunnymen and Peter Murphy release albums on the same day in 2014, obviously pretty good.  Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy is dropping his tenth studio album, and first since that little “incident” he had.

Watch “Hang Up” here:

Happy Birthday GoINDEEpMusic

14/06/02 at 9.29pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Birthday Cake imageOn June 2, 2013 we launched GoINDEEpMusic with a post about the Make Music Pasadena Festival that I was attending that day.  I followed it up with my first article the next day, a review of the festival, and from that point we were up and running.  The idea started back in 2007 and I purchased the domain in 2008,  finally in 2013 the blog went live.  The site would have never been possible without the assistance and ongoing commitment from Jimi-Jam.  Together, we have built a fun blog that promotes bands associated with the current indie music scene, and attempts to keep Heritage alternative rock Acts relevant.  A HUGE thank you to Jimi-Jam!

Now on to the Fun Facts:

There were a whopping 440 posts in the first year, 405 of which I wrote.  A special thank you to Present-Tense who contributed 29 unique posts that always leaves us wanting more.  PT’s help during the unprecedented project of Coachella 2014: 77 Bands In 77 Days made the whole thing come together.  Thank you to Tracy, Martin, Nick, Shae, and Jimi-Jam who also contributed articles to the site.  Finally, thank you to everyone that views the site, whether you do it daily, or just take a quick look-see every once in awhile.

By now the question on everyone’s mind is “how many Pixies posts were there?”

Drum roll please…

There were a total of 26 articles specifically about the Pixies, or an average of one every two weeks.  There were an additional 31 posts that referenced the Pixies, for a grand total of 57 Pixies sightings on the blog.  As always, please check my math.

This is fun!

Thank you,

GoINDEEpMusic

Pixies Share Video “Silver Snail”

14/05/29 at 8.59pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

20140117hoPixiesMag-2 (1)The video making machine that call themselves Pixies, are back at it again.  The latest effort is for the track “Silver Snail.” The tune first surfaced on setlists earlier this year, then was included on EP3, and ultimately landed on Indie Cindy, the band’s first LP in 23 years.  If my math is correct, that makes 10 videos that the band has released in the last year.

The RSD edition of Indie Cindy included a surprise tune inserted in the package called “Women Of War.”  The additional track is now available for free download at the Pixies website in exchange for an email address.

Recently, the band unveiled more North American tour dates for the fall.  The tour commences with a stop in San Diego at Humphrey’s on September 27.  I couldn’t help but notice that they want 87 bucks for a seated show.  Remember when they said it wasn’t about the money?  Guess what… It’s still about the money.

turntable1The following albums dropped today and are available in your local trendy record stores or on digital download.

Sharon Van Etten  “Are We There”

Brooklyn based singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten is releasing her fourth studio album and the follow-up to 2012’s well-received Tramp.  The title of her latest album “Are We There” should not be confused with the Athens, Georgia band arR wE theM…

Watch her latest video “Taking Chances” here:

Download  “Are We There” here:

The Brian Jonestown Massacre  “Revelation”

The San Francisco psychedelic collective are releasing their thirteenth studio album overall.  This album actually dropped last week and was remarkably overlooked.  Sorry bout that.

Listen to “What You Isn’t” here:

Download  “Revelation” here:

Notable EP Release:

Wolf Alice  “Creature Songs” EP

As the world patiently awaits the full-length debut from U.K. indie buzzband Wolf Alice, the North London quartet drops their second extended play in the last six months.  I really dig this band, I named their single “Bros” the #56 Track of 2013.  The video for the tune “Moaning Lisa Smile” surfaced two days ago.

The Stone Roses Rumored To Break Up ….. Again

14/05/25 at 10.43pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

111018074123-stone-roses-story-topIf the rumors are true, it was fun while it lasted a second time. Rumors are circulating throughout the U.K. that the Manchester legends are planning on calling it quits for good sometime next week.

The band has been relatively quiet since completing their world reunion tour last summer. An anonymous source cites that the band and Universal are working on terminating their contract and an announcement on the band’s
future will be made next week.

According to a band source “after all the gigs were finished trying to recreate magic between four very different entities as compared to their earlier incarnation just didn’t work.”

I won’t say I’m surprised, I was much more surprised they got back together in the first place, and then stayed back together this long. I’m thankful I saw them at the Coachella Festival in 2013.

Grown men, it okay to cry.

We Are Scientists Share Video “Make It Easy”

IMG_2927New York City indie rockers and one of this blogs faves We Are Scientists released a video for the track “Make It Easy” this week. The tune is off the bands fifth studio album TV en Francais, which was release back on March 3. Fans of WAS will really dig this tune, it’s probably one of their catchiest singles since 2008’s “After Hours.” Decide for yourself, I’ve included both below.

Slowdive Plays First Gig In 21 Years

14/05/23 at 8.06am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Recently reunited English shoegazing pioneers Slowdive played live for the first time in 21 years this week. The quintet played a warm up show in London prior to embarking upon a world tour that kicks off on May 29 in France. Presently, the tour consists of mostly festival dates including two stops in the States; July 20 in Chicago at the Pitchfork Festival, and the recently announced FYF Fest in Los Angeles on August 23.

The five-piece consists of Neil Halstead (vocals/guitar), Rachel Goswell (vocals/guitar), Nick Chaplin (bass), Christian Savill (guitar), and Simon Scott (drums). The band was originally active between 1989 to 1995 and released three studio albums. Halstead and Goswell formed the band Mojave 3 shortly after Slowdive broke up in 1995.

Studio Albums:
Just For A Day (1991)
Souvlaki (1993)
Pygmalion (1995)

R.E.M. Releases MTV Unplugged Sessions & 2 Rarities Collections

14/05/20 at 10.24pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

rem1ano2Retired college rock icons R.E.M. released a slew of material in physical and digital form this fine day. The 1991 and 2001 episodes of MTV Unplugged Sessions that were released on RSD in a 4LP set, is now available in a 2-disc set or digitally from iTunes and Amazon. The Unplugged Sessions includes both performances in their entirety, and features 11 songs that never aired due to time restraints. I am looking forward to finally upgrading my Unplugged copies which I still own on VCR tape, of course I do.

The Athens, Georgia rock stars also released a planned 50-song digital release of complete rarities from the I.R.S. years: 1982-1987. To the planets surprise there was an additional 131-song digital release of complete rarities from the Warner Bros years: 1988-2011 this morning. Morning surprises are fun, especially when they involve your favorite band of all-time. You read that right, 50 songs and 131 songs for a total of 181 glorious B-sides, live cuts, and non-album tracks. Both collections are available on ITunes and Amazon.

turntable1The following album dropped today and are available in your local trendy record stores or on digital download.

Coldplay “Ghost Stories”

As the British pop-rock quartet prepares for their possible 2015 headline gig at the Coachella Festival, they’ve found the time to release their sixth studio album. The first single “Magic” is the most Shazamed rock song of 2014 so far, now there’s a fun fact! What? I know you have a Coldplay album in your house…

Watch “Magic” here:

Download “Ghost Stories” here:

Conor Oberst “Upside Down Mountain”

This is the sixth studio album from the Conor, he is best known for his work with Bright Eyes. For some unknown reason Mr. Oberst has called on the band Dawes to not only open for him on tour, as well as be his backing band. Count me out on any Conor Oberst shows this year.

Watch Arcade Fire Video “We Exist”

14/05/20 at 10.00pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Col.Sheet5_frame11Well I’m officially done with the sarcasm concerning the Canadian collective Arcade Fire. After that brilliant set at the Coachella Music Festival last month, the best of weekend 1 in my opinion, the group is back on my radar as one of the best live acts in the world. You may be asking yourself “how in the hell was that his favorite show of the weekend if he was sleeping?” Listen, I took a little siesta during “Afterlife” and “It’s Never Over” but I was awake long enough to know that was the best show of the weekend. Besides, everyone falls asleep at some point during the weekend…

Recently Win Butler and Co. released a video for the track “We Exist” off their latest album Reflecktor. “We Exist” is the third single from the album, and the video which stars Andrew Garfield aka Spider-Man was shot during weekend 2 of the Coachella Festival.

Enjoy “We Exist” here:
