Mazzy Star Sets New Album Release Date & Shares Song
Mazzy Star, the ambient alternative rock band from Santa Monica, Ca. plans a September 24 release date for the follow-up to the 1996 album Among My Swan. The new album titled Seasons Of Your Day will include the singles “Common Burn” and “Lay Myself Down” which surfaced in 2011. All original members joined front-woman Hope Sandoval in the recording of this album.

Watch The Happy Hollows Video “Amethyst”
L.A. based power rockers The Happy Hollows are scheduled to release their sophomore effort Amethyst on July 30. Frontwoman Sarah Negahdari is back with her band after filling in on bass for Silversun Pickups over the last year. Sarah temporarily replaced Nikki Monninger who had been out on maternity leave. The title track (watch below) from the upcoming release was recorded at Bronson Island Studio.

Artist Spotlight: Guards
Every Sunday we take an INDEEp look into an emerging indie artist.
This week we Shine the Sunday Spotlight on Guards.
Guards are a California based indie pop trio comprised of Richie Follin, Loren Humphrey, and the lovely Kaylie Church. Follin who also fronts the garage rock band Willowz formed Guards while playing in his sister Madeline’s band Cults. The Guards frontman is sometimes confused with Cults being his band, but Follin adds, “Cults wasn’t really my band, I was just the guitar player and there to support my little sister and friends. So that was a great release, just to have time away from having to be focused on running everything.”

Alt-J Release Online Documentary “An American Wave”
U.K. indie rockers Alt-J released an online documentary concert this past Friday night via The Warner Sound. The 54 minute concert (watch below) was filmed at Midland Theater in Kansas City, Missouri. Alt-J (stylised as ∆) recently won the prestigious 2012 Mercury Prize, awarded to the best album released in the U.K. and Ireland annually. The debut full-length An Awesome Wave has remained relevant since its release in September 2012 as the band plays sold out shows world wide.

Flashback Friday: Galaxie 500
GoINDEEpMusic presents Flashback Friday featuring Galaxie 500.
Galaxie 500 are a well-regarded indie band from Boston, Ma. that formed in 1987. The band consisted of frontman Dean Wareham (vocals/guitar), Naomi Yang (bass), and Damon Krukowski (drums). The three met at high school in New York in 1981, but it wasn’t until college that the they started playing together while attending Harvard University. Interestingly, early on Damon didn’t own a drum kit and needed to borrow fellow Harvard classmate Conan O’Brien’s kit who recently had given up on the drums. Conan would later go on
to a lucrative late night television career and appear regularly in the GoINDEEpMusic Indie On TV section.

CHVRCHES Announce Debut Album Release Date
One of the most anticipated album releases of 2013 is that of Glasgow, Scotland’s electropop CHVRCHES. The band announced today that the full-length debut titled The Bones Of What You Believe will drop on September 24 in the U.S. The trio will make available a 12 track standard release and a 18 track special edition that will include remixes, bonus tracks, and live footage. Can’t wait!

Indie pioneers Yo La Tengo have released an animated video for the song “Ohm.” The tune can be found on their latest album Fade which came out on January 15. Fade amazingly is the Hoboken, NJ band’s thirteenth studio album.

Electronic Reunites For 1 Song
Electronic, the supergroup consisting of Bernard Sumner (New Order) and Johnny Marr (The Smiths) reunited over the weekend and performed the song “Getting Away With It” (watch below) during the ex-Smiths opener set.
After passing up a perfect opportunity to reunite at the 2013 Coachella Festival the two chose The Transmissions: Live at Jodrell Bank as the reunion venue. Later in the evening New Order frontman Bernard Sumner announced during their headliner set that:
“We’re going to release new material at some point; it’s going to be the next ‘Sgt. Pepper’s.”
We’ll keep that one on our new music radar…

Watch Franz Ferdinand Video “Right Action”
Roughly ten days ago Franz Ferdinand shared two songs off of their upcoming release Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action out August 27. We now have a video for the first single “Right Action.” If you think the new video looks similar to the indie classic “Take Me Out” it’s because both were directed by Jonas Odell. Amazingly, “Take Me Out” turned ten years old this year.
