Michael Stipe Discusses Future With CBS This Morning

14/12/22 at 7.42pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Michael StipeR.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe recently sat down with Anthony Mason of CBS This Morning and was candid on his plans to sing again, along with the future of the iconic band.  When asked about a R.E.M. reunion, Mr. Stipe said “No. That will never happen… There’s no point.”  He goes on to add that he despises nostalgia (Heritage Acts) but has full respect for them.  The soon to be 55 year old plans to sing again soon, just not with R.E.M.

The band recently released a six-DVD career spanning box set entitled REMTV.  If you’re looking for a last minute stocking stuffer for the R.E.M. fan in your life, look no further.

Coachella Reflects With Video “Desert Parallax”

14/12/20 at 7.27am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Coachella imageThe official site of the Coachella Music Festival came out of hibernation mode Friday, as a 2014 reflection video titled “Desert Parallax” was unveiled.  Activity around this time of the year is common and usually signifies the beginning of Coachella season.  The video, which is really cool, IMO, comes nearly eight month after the official Reflection Day which is held the Monday following the 3-day festival.  Expect more activity from Coachella in the upcoming weeks, along with the unveiling of the 2015 line-up in late January.

Warning:  Tears may flow.

Let’s reflect!

I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness

14/12/17 at 9.25pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

At first glance, I bet you thought was shutting down the blog with all of my poorly written posts, yinz can’t get that lucky.  In fact, what DJ Deep recently uncovered was that the Austin, Texas indie-goth band, that possess the fun moniker I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness, have risen from an eight year hiatus, seriously!

ILYBICDILYBICD released the follow-up to their 2006 debut LP Fear Is On Our Side back on October 28, and yours truly completely missed it.  My sincere apology goes out to all of the ILYBICD fans out there for overlooking this historic occasion.  The sophomore release is titled Dust, and the group recently shared video is for the track “You Are Dead To Me,” which you can view or choose darkness below.

I came across this band back in 2003 when they dropped their selt-titled EP, and then I completely got into them in more ways than one in 2006.  Since then, the band’s name has taken on more of the focus than the actual music.

The band recently played their first live show in over 5 years when they opened for none other than …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead on October 30th in Austin.  You can’t make this shit up.  Next, a couple of supporting slots for Spoon later this month in Houston and Dallas.  This blog will keep you updated on upcoming ILYBICD tour dates.

Allow me to take this opportunity to add I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness to my Coachella 2015 Perfect Poster Wish List.

The Libertines Plan New Album

14/12/14 at 9.10am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

The LibertinesBritish indie rock band The Libertines recently announced their plans to release a new album in 2015.  The recently reformed group had reunited back in April and played their first show in four years on June 28 in Glasgow, Scotland.  Last month the band announced a album deal with Virgin EMI Records, and now comes the news of their first album since the self-titled 2004 release.

Apparently, frontman Pete Doherty is once again clean, he’s attending a rehab facility in Thailand where is announcement was made.  Mr. Doherty had this to say on the news: “I don’t know what to say, I’m so happy, It was a beautiful day.”  Bandmate and fellow frontman Carl Barât, added: “After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, I couldn’t be more excited.”

The highly-regarded indie band formed in 1997 and released two albums before their ugly split in 2004.  The group was instrumental in spearheading the garage-rock revival movement in the early 00’s.  Add The Libertines to my Coachella 2015 Perfect Poster Wish List.

Tears For Fears – Belly Up Tavern – Solana Beach – Tonight!!!

14/12/10 at 2.23pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Tears For FearsShout, Shout, Let It All Out!

GoINDEEpMusic will be out at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach tonight for an evening with Tears For Fears.  Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith will bring their eighties synthpop to San Diego County’s premiere live music venue.

I was lucky enough to check my electronic mail the moment the show was announced and scooped up a ticket immediately. Tickets went like hot cakes within minutes, so if you hesitated, you’re shit out of luck.

Tears for fear SFTBCI’ve adored this band from the moment I heard songs from their 1983 release The Hurting.  I can remember laying in bed listening to Rock Over London when I first heard songs like “Change” and “Pale Shelter.”  For those unfamiliar with Rock Over London, it was a syndicated radio program that usually aired sometime around midnight on Sunday night back in the eighties.  The show offered up some of the best British music that wasn’t available here in the States at the time.  After a lengthy kickass playlist, the show would conclude with the Top 5 songs on the U.K. charts that particular week.  The show is fully responsible for my love and appreciation of the British bands of the early to mid eighties, especially Tears For Fears.   I used to go to mall and ask the clueless associates working at National Record Mart, “do you have any Tears For Fears?” and they would always respond with “never heard of them.”

By the time band release the 1985 follow-up LP Songs From The Big Chair, their music became slightly more accessible and I was first in line to pick up a copy of SFTBC on cassette tape.  Here’s a fun fact about DJ Deep, the first compact disc I ever purchased after adding a CD player to my stereo system was The Hurting.  Tonight’s show is a long time coming…  I’ve never seen TFF before, and I can’t believe I will be taking it all in at my favorite live music venue, the Belly Up Tavern.  No word if there’s an opening act tonight.  Can’t wait!

Two weeks ago, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their blockbuster album “Songs From The Big Chair,” Tears For Fears convened in the historic LA Studio The Village to perform some of their biggest hits for an intimate audience of 50 superfans. Watch the performance below, and listen to an expanded version (including a  cover of the Radiohead tune “Creep”) only on Spotify Landmark.
