2068-600x600London, England indie rockers Yuck, have released another video from their impressive sophomore effort Glow and Behold. The single “Lose My Breath” follows “Rebirth” and “Middle Sea.” The band seems to be doing just fine after the departure of frontman Daniel Blumberg. The track “Middle Sea” was recently named the 29th best track of 2013 by GoINDEEpMusic.

Frank Black’s Reaction To Shattuck Firing, “Big Woop-Dee-Doo”

13/12/19 at 9.57pm   /   by deepster19   /   1 Comment

frank-black366Pixies frontman Frank Black has broken the silence regarding recently fired touring bassist Kim Shattuck. In an interview with Yahoo Music, Charles Thompson had this to say:
The big question mark is, if it was going so well, why are you changing it up again? I guess it’s a fair question, but what I would say is, just because some shows went well or a recording session went well with somebody, that doesn’t mean that now you guys are married and this is forever. It’s not really how it works when you’re a band. And it’s hard to explain to people, especially if they get emotionally attached to one person…

Frankly, you don’t want to explain it to anybody – it’s a lot of its personal, private shit. It’s like politics and sports and people’s personal lives have all been smeared together in this modern world. It’s a very presumptuous attitude about a lot of things. [People say] ’Oh you’re shifting something in your world – we demand a statement as to why.’ I’m not the mayor, this isn’t the bus service for a town. This is a rock band. There’s been a shift in the lineup, big woop-dee-doo…as far as we’re concerned it ain’t that big of a deal.

If you’re beginning to feel like the Pixies are in the news every other day, that’s because they are. How Fun! The track “Indie Cindy” from the EP-1, was recently named as the 30th best track of 2013 by GoINDEEpMusic.

Flashback Friday: Swervedriver

13/12/15 at 9.50pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

swervedriverSwervedriver is an English alternative rock band that formed circa 1989. The Oxford based band is best known for their influential contributions to the British shoegazing movement of the early nineties. Initially, the band was active between 1989-1998 having multiple line-ups and releasing four studio albums. The two mainstays are singer/guitarists Adam Franklin and Jimmy Hartridge.

The band debuted in 1990 with a series of three critically acclaimed EP’s prior to releasing their full-length debut Raise in 1991. Each EP produced a single; Son Of Mustang Ford, Rave Down, and Sandblasted, all would eventually be included on Raise. The album Raise is a brilliant piece of early nineties British rock that should be on everyone’s wall of sound.

After a lengthy U.S. tour supporting Soundgarden, they experienced a line-up change before releasing two more EP’s and then their sophomore album Mezcal Head in 1993. The well-received classic album fuses a mix of Shoegazing and grunge with a hint of American indie. The album produced two alternative rock singles “Duel” and “Last Train To Satansville.”

Due to a palethra of record label issue, the band’s third album Ejector Seat Reservation was never released in North America. Going against the band’s request the label chose “Last Day On Earth as the lead single. The idea was to capitalize on the popularity of Btitpop at the time. because the song sounded as close to Oasis as they were going to get. The band’s poorest selling album is still held in high regards with the critics, but still remains an import-only in the States.

Shortly before breaking up in 1998 the band signed a three-album deal with DGC Records. In typical Swervedriver fashion that deal went to hell quickly for a number of reasons. They were able to get their final record 99th Dream released through an independent source, along with two more EP’s before calling it quits.

Franklin went on to record as Toshack Highway and later collaborate with Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino in Madnetic Morning. Longtime members Graham Bonner and Adi Vines formed Skyscape.

After much-spectulation Swervedriver reunited in the Fall of 2007, citing the success and positive reaction the Pixies had received since 2004. The band kicked-off their reunion tour at non other than the Coachella Music Festival in AoPril of 2008. Now I don’t consider myself a “Swervie” but I was extremely excited about the event….. I ran from the beer garden to the Mojave to ensure my spot on the rail. Eventually, the rest of the deepsters arrived on the scene and at that point I finally turned around to see there wasn’t anyone else in the tent. How embarrassing! ….. not for me, for America.

This week the band released their first piece of recorded music in nearly 15 years. The song “Deep Wound” first surfaced on Jimmy Fallon back in 2012. The new single was made available on iTunes this past Tuesday. Listen to the track below.

Swervedriver’s 4 studio albums include:
Raise 1991
Mezcal Heal 1993
Ejector Seat Reservation 1996
99th Dream 1998

Primal Scream Share Video “Goodbye Johnny” & Coachella Possible

13/12/14 at 1.34pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

bobbyLegendary Scottish psychedelic dance rockers Primal Scream have recently shared a video for the track “Goodbye Johnny” (watch below). The song is from the band’s tenth studio album More Light, released on June 18.

The Bobby Gillespie fronted band also revealed that they will be returning to the U.S. in late spring 2014 for a twelve date run. The band played six California dates back in October, which I unfortunately missed out on. The possibility for Coachella exists as the band is playing Mexico City’s Vive Latino Festival in late March, and their U.S.tour “begins” April 30 in Houston, Texas (see dates below). Primal Scream is on my short list of Bands That I Need To See Live.

In other related Coachella news this week:
Dum Dum Girls revealed that their appearance is likely based on their tour “ending” on April 8 in San Francisco. However, you’ll have to wait and see on this one, since the tour does hit West Coast cities early on.

Watch the “Goodbye Johnny” video here:

Primal Scream 2014 North American tour dates:
April 30: Fitzgerald’s, Houston, TX
May 2: Psych Fest, Austin, TX
May 3:- Granada Theatre, Dallas, TX
May 4: Beale Street Festival, Memphis, TN
May 6: Centre Stage Theater, Atlanta, GA
May 8: Sixth & I, Washington, D.C.
May 9: Union Transfer, Philadelphia, PA
May 11: Warsaw, Brooklyn, NY
May 12: Irving Plaza, New York, NY

tpc2Canadian indie rockers Tokyo Police Club have returned to the scene after a brief hiatus. The last we heard from TPC was way back in 2010 when they released their sophomore album Champ. The Newmarket, Ontario based band plans an early 2014 release date for their forthcoming album (currently untitled). The four piece dropped a preview of things the come in the form of a 9-minute video for the lead single “Argentina (Parts I.II.III). Word is a U.S. tour is set to commence next spring… These dudes are fun!

Shattuck Cites “Overly Enthusiastic” As Cause For Termination

13/12/12 at 9.51pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

2013PixiesEM051213
Ex-Pixies touring bassist Kim Shattuck revealed an incident to U.K. Rag NME yesterday that she claims led to her firing. Ms.
Shattuck alleges that her “overly enthusiastic” behavior at the Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles way back on September 12, was the beginning of the end to her Pixies career.

Call me crazy but….. I think there might have been slightly more to it.

Read all about Shattuck’s side of the story below (courtesy of NME):

“I was surprised. Everything had gone well, the reviews were all good and the fans were super-nice about everything. They were like, ‘We love you, New Kim!’ We said goodbye at the airport and the following morning the manager called me and said: ‘The band has made the decision to go with another bass player. I was shocked.”

“I get the feeling they’re more introverted people than I am. Nobody really talked about deep issues, at least out loud. There was a show at the Mayan in Los Angeles where I got overly enthusiastic and jumped into the crowd, and I know they weren’t thrilled about that. When I got offstage the manager told me not to do that again. I said, ‘Really, for my own safety?’ And he said, ‘No, because the Pixies don’t do that.”‘

“I would have preferred if they told me face to face,” Shattuck said, “but they’re
nice people.”

The Pixies appointed Paz Lenchantin as their new touring bassist earlier this week.

English psychedelic indie rockers TOY are releasing their sophomore effort. Join The Dots is the follow-up to 2012’s critically acclaimed self-titled debut. Pixies Reveal New Bassist & Video

13/12/09 at 7.39pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

pazWithout even an official whisper from the band concerning the termination of touring bassist Kim Shattuck, earlier this morning the Pixies announced her replacement. The band revealed that Paz Lenchantin will be the bassist on their forthcoming 2014 tour in North and South America, and Europe. Lenchantin, whose resume includes A Perfect Circle and Billy Corgan’s (Smashing Pumpkins) side project Zwan, takes over for the recently departed New Kim and original bassist Old Kim. Although it can’t be confirmed, we can only assume that Ms. Lenchantin’s middle name has to be Kimberly.

Drummer David Lovering addressed the Lenchantin hiring in an email sent to fans earlier today:

“We are really looking forward to playing with her on these dates. Working with different bass players is very new for the band, but we’re having a great time doing it.”

In addition to the bassist announcement, the Pixies also unveiled yet another video, this time for the EP-1 track “Another Toe In The Ocean” (watch below).

I look forward to seeing Paz in Phoenix on February 24, and again Weekend 1 of the Coachella Music Festival in April.
