Present-Tense here helping daver with this exhausting project. 77 is a good number so I felt compelled to help him. We’re digging into the 2014 Coachella Music Festival lineup by featuring one band per day. The purpose of this piece is to assist in difficult decisions that inevitably you’ll need to make, as well as, serve as a fun countdown to Coachella Week. Note: All bands appear in a completely random order… Enjoy, and let the countdown continue!
Day 61 = Daughter
Performing = Sunday
Daughter is a European rock band originating from England (LOL that kind of reads funny, oh well) who has released two EPs and one album on Glassnote and 4AD records. Even though I only recently heard of them, Daughter has been headlining tours around North America, Europe and Australia since 2010. I find them enjoyable and I thought it was really nice that they named themselves after the emotionally wrenching Pearl Jam track of the same name.
Daughter released their debut album, If You Leave, (not related to that cool tune from Pretty In Pink by OMD) in March 2013. Some of the critics (such as Drowned In Sound) have assessed that “An album as beautifully conceived as If You Leave is one you follow from start to finish, riveted by the story it weaves and the emotion it bleeds. And in these digital days that feels like a remarkable achievement”. WOW! Drowned In Sound went pretty deep there.
If I had to compare them to an artist, I’d have to say that a female fronted National would be an apt comparison. They have some pretty depressing lyrics and a melancholy sound. I’ll find it amusing watching them while people are eating their Spicy Pies and waffle ice cream sandwiches. Check out Daughter for yourself below.
