I was listening to my iTunes radio and just happened upon the Le Blonde “Let It Burn” track and immediately downloaded it.
Present Tense’s Top 10 Albums of 2013
As promised, here are my Top 10 Albums of 2013. There were so many great albums to choose from this year. Like my Top 10 Tracks of 2013 list, this is another list that could change if I did this activity a week from now. For example, I’m still kicking myself for leaving a Black Angels’ track off of my top 10 tracks list. This Top 10 Albums of 2013 list includes bands such as The Joy Formidable, Vampire Weekend, CHVRCHES, Pearl Jam and Queens of the Stone Age.
R.I.P. Benjamin Curtis
School Of Seven Bells singer/guitarist Benjamin Curtis passed away on Sunday night in New York. Mr. Curtis was diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma in February. Besides his work in School Of Seven Bells, Benjamin was a member of Secret Machines, UFOFU, and Tripping Daisy.
Benjamin Curtis was 35.

Band Of Skulls Unveils New Song & Announce New Album
English alt-rockers Band Of Skulls have unveiled a new song in advance of their recently announced forthcoming third studio album. The new tune titled “Be Mine” will be included as an iTunes exclusive bonus track on the upcoming album Himalayan (tracklist below). The follow-up to 2012’s Sweet Sour, is scheduled to drop on April 1, a mere 10 days prior to a popular Southern California Music Festival. The lead single from Himalayan is the tune “Asleep At The Wheel,” currently available on digital download.

These are my Top 10 Tracks 2013. I wanted to get this list in before the end of year but after Davers post (which was awesome btw). If you ask me in like three weeks what my Top 10 Tracks 2013 edition were, it could be totally different, but in the moment right now..these are the 10 best tracks.
Ariel Pink & Sky Ferreira Remake “My Molly”
Ariel Pink and Sky Ferreira have teamed up to record a new version of the song “My Molly.” The tune is originally from Mr. Pink’s 2006 EP of the same name, check out the video below.
Furthermore, Ms. Ferreira recently commented on her NSFW album cover that features her topless.
Here’s what Sky had to say:
“You’re supposed to sell your body in a way that’s like… it’s OK to be sexy when it benefits everyone else. Most of the people who had a problem with it were men. At this point, I feel like I’m doing a bad job of being a feminist if I’m not making someone angry.”
“But I’m making art and doing things that are true to my work,” she continued. “I’m not trying to sell my body. But it’s my body to sell if I did want to! This kind of cover isn’t even what sells – what sells is your face, shot by a fashion photographer, but I didn’t want to do something like that. I do that all the time.”
The debut LP titled Night Time, My Time is definitely worth a listen. I noticed iTunes is spreading the yuletide spirit by offering it for $6.99 this week.

Yuck Shares Video “Lose My Breath”
London, England indie rockers Yuck, have released another video from their impressive sophomore effort Glow and Behold. The single “Lose My Breath” follows “Rebirth” and “Middle Sea.” The band seems to be doing just fine after the departure of frontman Daniel Blumberg. The track “Middle Sea” was recently named the 29th best track of 2013 by GoINDEEpMusic.

Frank Black’s Reaction To Shattuck Firing, “Big Woop-Dee-Doo”
Pixies frontman Frank Black has broken the silence regarding recently fired touring bassist Kim Shattuck. In an interview with Yahoo Music, Charles Thompson had this to say:
The big question mark is, if it was going so well, why are you changing it up again? I guess it’s a fair question, but what I would say is, just because some shows went well or a recording session went well with somebody, that doesn’t mean that now you guys are married and this is forever. It’s not really how it works when you’re a band. And it’s hard to explain to people, especially if they get emotionally attached to one person…
Frankly, you don’t want to explain it to anybody – it’s a lot of its personal, private shit. It’s like politics and sports and people’s personal lives have all been smeared together in this modern world. It’s a very presumptuous attitude about a lot of things. [People say] ’Oh you’re shifting something in your world – we demand a statement as to why.’ I’m not the mayor, this isn’t the bus service for a town. This is a rock band. There’s been a shift in the lineup, big woop-dee-doo…as far as we’re concerned it ain’t that big of a deal.
If you’re beginning to feel like the Pixies are in the news every other day, that’s because they are. How Fun! The track “Indie Cindy” from the EP-1, was recently named as the 30th best track of 2013 by GoINDEEpMusic.

Shattuck Out As Pixies Bassist
Moments after completing the first leg of their world tour in Europe, the Pixies relieved new bassist Kim Shattuck of her duties. Ms. Shattuck was hired back on July 1 to replace original member Kim Deal who decided to resign. New Kim, which lasted a hair under six months, plans to dive back into The Muffs.
Shattuck delivered the news of her departure via Twitter and Facebook:
“Super disappointed to learn that my time with the Pixies ended today. Amazing experience. Looking forward to focusing my attention back on the Muffs and our upcoming new album. All the best to everyone.”
Speculation has already started on who will replace Old Kim and New Kim. Here are a few names to keep your eyes on: Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Kim Clarke (Defunkt), Kim Warnick (Fastbacks), Kim Kardashian (Kanye West), and the possible return of Kim Deal.
The Pixies begin the North American leg of their tour on January 15 in Toronto.

New Music Tuesday December 3, 2013
We’ve officially entered that time of the year when there are more lists being constructed than new music being released. The next time we will see new music is around mid January.

Less than a month after making its U.S. theater premiere, the Shane Meadows film is being released on DVD just in time for the holidays. The film makes a great stocking stuffer, and is available on Blu-Ray, Laser Disc, and VCR Tape as well.
