Watch Washed Out “All I Know”

13/10/28 at 9.35pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

washed-out-by-shae-detar-650-430The latest single off Paracosm, the sophomore effort from Washed Out, is the beautiful “All I Know.” When all the fun lists are revealed at the end of the year, this tune should be near the top of many of them (IMO, of course). The video, produced by Urban Outfitters, is obviously nowhere near as beautiful as the song, decide for yourself. Washed Out is chillwave extraordinaire Ernest Greene.

Simple Minds, Still Alive and Kicking

13/10/24 at 9.39pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

101722793_simple_mi_355647cLast Tuesday evening the heritage act Simple Minds played to a sellout crowd at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The Glasgow, Scotland based band performed on United States soil for the first time in eleven years. The band has been touring the world since 2011 playing what is being billed as a Greatest Hits Tour, and finally decided that seven North American dates were worthy
enough. The entire evening showcased the group with two solid sets (see setlist below) broken up by a twenty minute interval, with no supporting act.

Pearl Jam launch a “Lightning Bolt”

PearlJamWideUseBWInstruments

Has it really been four years since “Backspacer”? It actually feels longer. I’ve celebrated my 5th wedding anniversary, my first child was born, Pearl Jam celebrated their 20th anniversary with PJ20 and a majority of the band members released solo projects. Basically, it’s been a long time. Well the time has been worth it as “Lightning Bolt” is Pearl Jam’s strongest effort in years and for me it launches into the 2nd tier of their overall catalog.

Watch Cut Copy Video “Free Your Mind”

Basic RGBThe Australian indietronica outfit Cut Copy have shared a video for “Free Your Mind,” the first single and title track from the band’s
forthcoming album. The new album is the follow-up to the 2011 release Zonoscope, and is due in record stores on November 5. Cut Copy
begins a world tour on October 30 with 2 weeks worth of North American dates that includes a stop at the Marquee in Tempe, Arizona on November 6. The tune “Free Your Mind” combines a beautiful blend of circa 1991 Madchester grooves with Italo house beats that screams… holy shit I think I’m listening to the song of the year.

Artist Spotlight: Swim Deep

13/09/23 at 9.23pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Swim Deep
Almost every Sunday we take an INDEEp look into an emerging indie artist. This week we Shine the Sunday Spotlight on Swim Deep.

Swim Deep is the latest indie buzz band to emerge from the Birmingham, England B-Town music scene. The B-Town scene is a term given to bands that have risen from the Digbeth area of Birmingham over the last two plus years. Swim Deep joins fellow Digbeth groups such as Peace, Troumaca, and JAWS as bands on the come. Although all of these bands have different vibes, local journalists have run with this term to allegedly invented a music scene fad. Members of Swim Deep and Peace claim that they invented the term and are embarrassed that NME and other London based media outlets continue to use the silly term.

The Birmingham four piece consists of Austin Williams (vocals), Tom Higgins (guitar), Zachary Robinson (drums) and Cavan McCarthy (bass). The band formed in 2011 and credits The Stone Roses, Nirvana, and The Jesus and Mary Chain for the band even existing. In their short career, the indie dream pop band have released five singles along with their debut full-length Where The Heaven Are We. The critically acclaimed debut LP dropped back on August 5.

Fans of eighties dream pop, nineties shoegaze, or bands that have Deep in their name should already have Swim Deep in heavy rotation. As for the rest of the current B-Town music scene… everyone knows I’ve been singing the praises of Peace since late 2012 and if you like FOALS you’ll dig JAWS.

Local Natives Play Tempe, Az. and Reveal Video “Ceilings”

13/09/21 at 9.04pm   /   by deepster19   /   36 Comments

Local-Natives1Local Natives performed in front of an energetic crowd at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Arizona last Sunday Night. The Silver Lake, California indie rockers played a flawless set to a audience of mostly desert hipsters, “I am more indie than you” college students, and a few old men.

The beautifully constructed set (setlist below) consisted of an equal amount of tunes from the band’s two studio albums, Hummingbird (2013), and Gorilla Manor (2010). Throughout the evening the enthusiastic crowd provided constant backing vocals, especially on “Wide Eyes” and “World News.” The band opened the set with the 2013 single “Breakers” and closed the set with perhaps one of my LN faves “Who Knows Who Cares.” The self proclaimed ‘unprepared’ set caught the crowd off guard, because up to that point the set seemed fine to me as well as the capacity crowd… just sayin’. The evening ended with the powerful encore closer “Sun Hands,” you could watch it below if wasn’t for a “device malfunction.”

Artist Spotlight: Potty Mouth

13/09/09 at 6.57pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Potty MouthPotty Mouth are an indie punk band that formed Northampton, Massachusetts in 2011. The all girl band consists of Abby Weems (vocals, guitar), Ally Einbender (bass), Phoebe Harris (guitar), and Victoria Mandanas (drums). The ladies took their name from an album by the seminal riot grrl group Bratmobile. Although they have association with riot grrrl bands from the feminist underground punk rock movement, they have denied their music has a political agenda.

Up until this point the band has released the EP Sun Damage in 2012, along with numerous singles throughout 2013. The bands debut full-length Hell Bent is expected in record stores on September 17. You can find the most recent single “Black and Studs” on the GoINDEEpMusic August Mix Tape.
