Each week I post the Top 20 College Radio Albums courtesy of CMJ (College Media Journal).  Below are also 5 discs that I have in heavy rotation and an album that amazingly turns 10 years old in 2015, I call it my Spicy 6.

Purity RingThat’s three weeks in a row in the top spot for Father John Misty.  Two new albums make their debut in the countdown, including one from Washington folk musician Brandi Carlile and another from Virginia Beach producer and songwriter Matthew E. Of MontrealThat’s two weeks in a row in the top spot for Father John Misty.  Four new albums make their debut in the countdown, including one from New Jersey indie rockers Screaming Females and another from the Seattle hip hop duo THEESatifaction.  The other two new albums belong to the Athens, Georgia glam-rockers Of Montreal (pictured) and the sophomore release from Edmonton’s Purity Ring. Despite falling to #5, The Decemberists remain #1 on my Spicy 6 countdown.  Last week, Some Cities, the third studio album from Doves turned 10 years old.  Doves has been on hiatus way too long, I miss Doves.  Last year Doves members Jez and Andy Williams started a new band called Black Rivers.  Revisit the beautiful tune “Snowden”

Sleater-Kinney has the #1 album on College Radio for the second week in a row.  Four new albums enter the Top 20, two of which debut in the Top 200. The first big debut is from Kingston, Pennsylvania’s pride and joy, Title Fight.  The second one comes from Nashville singer-songwriter Natalie Prass.  The other two new albums are from the Los Angeles six-piece Dengue Fever and the Liverpool based band All We Are.  The trio All We Are (pictured) shouldn’t be confused with the pretend band Are We Them.  The Decemberists are still #1 on my Spicy Six countdown, and will be there for quite some time.  The band’s latest album What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World is truly the most perfect album.  Every song on this 14-track masterpiece is perfection!  This summer, Plans, the fifth studio album from Death Cab For Cutie turns 10.  Man, I can listen to the tune “Soul Meets Body” everyday of the world.

Parkay Quarts’ time at the top of the College Radio Album Chart was short-lived as Panda Bear (pictured) jumps from #7 to #1.  There are six albums new to the Top 20 this week, including the self-titled 7-song debut from the Calgary indie buzzband Viet Cong, which leaps 166 spots to #4.  It’s not surprising that Ty Segall released another album that was well-received by College Radio.  Mr Segall’s latest is the EP Mr. Face, which debuts in the Top 200 at #6, that gives him two albums in the Top 20 this week.    Other newbies include the latest from Sleater-Kinney, Marianne Faithfull, and some band that calls themselves Smashing Pumpkins, really College Radio, Smashing Pumpkins?  Who the hell is still spinning Smashing Pumpkins?  The last time Sleater-Kinney released an album was back in 2005, their album The Woods turns 10 years old in May, here’s the tune “Jumpers” for your listening pleasure.   I’m diggin’ that new Panda album and can’t wait to check him out at the Coachella Music Festival.

TVOTRHere’s the weekly Top 20 College Radio Albums from the Radio 200 list published by CMJ (College Media Journal). The reputable rag surveys up to 600 college radio stations of a weekly basis to compute the list.

In addition, here’s my Spicy Six Albums of the week. These are the six albums that can’t find their way out of my six disc changer. The list consists of my Top 5 Albums of the week, and one Heritage Album that’s worth dusting off and giving a listen.

Here’s the lists:
After spending two weeks in the top spot, Caribou falls to #2.   “Seeds,” the fifth studio album from TV On The Radio (pictured) takes over at #1.  Five albums are new to the countdown this week, one of which is from the Australian psychedelic seven-piece that call themselves King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, how fun!  Also new to the Top 20 is the supergroup The New Basement Tapes, the group consists of Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens, Taylor Goldsmith, Jim James and Marcus Mumford, the album was produced by T Bone Burnett.  Chaz Bundick is the mastermind behind Toro Y Moi, his latest project is called Les Sins, and “Michael” is the first release under that moniker.  Ariel Pink’s first release without his band The Haunted Graffiti jumps 126 spots to come in at #11.  The final new album to debut in the Top 20 is a reissue from Flake Music.  The band Flake Music was a five-piece that formed in 1992 by James Mercer, and released their only album “When You Land Here, It’s Time To Return” in 1997.  Four of the members of Flake Music would go on to form the original line-up of The Shins.  New at the top of my Spicy Six is the sophomore album from the London based band 2:54.  Anyone catch the documentary R.E.M. By MTV?  When was the last last time you listened to “Out Of Time?”
