Yo Gabba GabbaGoINDEEpMusic will be out at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles for a night of family fun with Yo Gabba Gabba.  DJ Lance and his sidekicks Muno, Foofa, Brobee, Toodee, and Plex hit the stage at 5pm today.

The coolest rock show on the planet for children (and parents too) has been on tour this fall making stops in 30 U.S. cities.

The live performance was created from the Nickelodeon television show by the same name.  The television program debuted back in 2007, and is known for incorporating the indie music culture into the episodes.  Some of the noteworthy artists to appear on the program include:  The Shins, Of Montreal, Mates Of State, The Killers, The Faint, MGMT, and believe it or not, Jimmy Eat World.

Music Is Awesome!

“R.E.M. By MTV” To Premiere Saturday On Palladia & VH1 Classic

14/11/20 at 10.40pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

REM young photoThis Saturday (November 22) the documentary “R.E.M. By MTV” will premiere on both Palladia and VH1 Classic at 6pm Pacific Time.  The film by Alexander Young, documents R.E.M. from their early stages of becoming College Rock icons to their peak as America’s best rock & roll band.  In addition, it features drummer Bill Berry’s departure and the band and moving forward as a trio, to eventually the group’s retirement in 2011.

The film will be included in the R.E.M. box set entitled “REMTV.”  For those unfamiliar, the 6-DVD box set will include, but not limited to the follow treasures:  MTV Unplugged 1991 & 2001 with outakes, VH1 Storytellers, Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony, live footage from around the world throughout the band’s entire career, along with the film “R.E.M. by MTV.”  I have to admit , when I first heard about this monster load, the fist thing that came to mind was… who raided my VCR tape collection?   View the entire 6-DVD collection tracklist here.  The collection drops Monday November 24 and should be available in your favorite DVD retail outlets, or you can order it here.  “REMTV” makes a great Christmas gift for the hardcore R.E.M fan in your life.

REM unpluggedThis completes a busy year for the retired rock stars.  Earlier this year, the legendary Athens, Georgia band unveiled a massive collection of over 130 rarities that spans their entire career, along with the entire MTV Unplugged Sessions from 1991 and 2001 on compact disc as well as on long player.  In addition, the group made available for the first time through iTunes their debut EP Chronic Town in a standalone digital CD download.  Can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store for the retired legends.

Set your VCR, TIVO, or DVR for this Saturday at 6pm, and then sit back and watch my favorite band of all-time in all its glory  For those with Directv, Palladia can be found on channel 572, if you haven’t watched VH1 since the 1999 episode of Leif Garrett: Behind The Music, VH1 Classic can be found on channel 337.   Enjoy!

Ride Reunites, Coachella Appearance Likely

14/11/20 at 1.49pm   /   by deepster19   /   2 Comments

Ride reunionWith the recent reunion success of My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, fellow legendary British shoegazers Ride have decided to reunite and join in all the gazing fun.  The band initially announced 9 tour dates that begins in Glasgow (please inform Glasgow) next May 22, and includes an appearance at the Barcelona Primavera Festival on May 29.  The only U.S. date thus far is a visit to the Big Apple on June 4

While the news may come to some as the most significant music to one’s ears since the announcement that The Stone Roses were getting back together, others may react with simply “that’s nice, now I can get on with the rest of my day.”  I could say the news comes as a surprise, but when it comes to Heritage Acts, I wouldn’t be anymore surprised if I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet.

Ride GBAAbout two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of watching Slowdive perform at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, while watching the band I thought to myself, man, the only thing better than this would be a Ride reunion, and there you go.  This isn’t the first time I’ve had Ride on the brain over the last month.  I was out with a friend back in October to see The Horrors, the band’s between set music included the Ride tune “Leave Them All Behind.”  I have since promptly dusted off the albums Nowhere and Going Black Again, as well as turned my friend on to Ride.

When I reflect back on the last few years, I’ve been fortunate enough to see many of my favorite bands from early nineties.  Lets reflect, shall we, in no particular order of course:  The Charlatans UK, Happy Monday (albeit a Shaun Ryder karaoke performance), My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver, The Stone Roses, Pulp, James, Blur, and Slowdive.  Apologies if I missed anyone.  The Ride reunion will be epic, and I will be there, come hell or high water.

What made this reunion come together was Ride guitarist Andy Bell’s former band Beady Eye recently called it quits.  Don’t get overly concerned that the band has only announced 9 dates, there will be more, tour dates galore for that matter.  When Goldenvoice feels the time is right to reveal the 2015 Coachella Line up (I believe it will come much sooner than later this year), you can bet your bottom dollar that R-I-D-E will be on line 2, possibly right under Pink Floyd.  Talk about fun, Ride hitting the main stage right before Pink Floyd on Sunday night to close out the festival, that would be fun, right?  Not to mention, Mr. Bell owes us one,  his former band Beady Eye canceled their appearance at the festival earlier this year.  Add Ride to my 2015 Coachella Perfect Poster Wish List.

Here’s what Andy Bell had to say about the reunion:

“It’s going to be really cool. As we were all still friends, we always thought when the time was right we’d do it. And now the time is right.”

Ride singer/guitarist Mark Gardener who always has been adamant that Ride would never reform, added this:

“People bought our records first time round…but our music has grown in significance since we’ve been away… We want to give the people what they want. We’d be idiots to go out and play a new album, but that’s not to say we wouldn’t make new music.”

Not only was the time right, but I can only imagine the money is  much better than it was back in 1990.  To find out more about Ride, check out the piece I wrote on the band for Flashback Friday last year right here.

Now that we’ve gotten the Ride reunion out of the way, we start demanding a Catherine Wheel reunion.

Get reacquainted with Ride below:

turntable1The following albums dropped today and are available in your local trendy record store or on digital download.

All 3 of the bands featured this week in New Music Tuesday are on my 2015 Coachella Perfect Poster Wish List;  2:54, Parkay Quarts, and Tears For Fears.  There’s another release this week from some band called Pink Floyd, if they happen to end up on line 1 at the 2015 Coachella Festival that not only would be cool but also hilarious.  I would expect a track by track review of the new Pink Floyd album from contributing writer Present-Tense any minute now.

2:54  “The Other I”

2:54 is a London based indie rock band comprised of the Thurlow sisters, Colette and Hannah.  If you don’t know who they are, shame on you !  This is the shoegazers sophomore release, and is the follow-up to the 2012 self-titled debut.  We showed you the track “Orion” a few months back, and below is the latest single “Blindfold.”

Enjoy!

Download  “The Other I” here:

Parkay Quarts  “Content Nausea”

Over the last 2 years, this is one of my fave indie bands.  This is the Brooklyn band’s second release in 2014.  The other one, Sunbathing Animal, was released under the moniker Parquet Courts.  One of the things I like about these dudes is they don’t give a shit, they just make good music.  Presently, the band goes by Parkay Quarts, Parquet Courts, and PCPC.  How fun!

Listen to “Uncast Shadow Of A Southern Myth” here:

Download  “Content Nausea” here:

Tears For Fears

“Songs From The Big Chair” (Re-Issue)

Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, a.k.a. Tears For Fears, are reissuing their 1985 classic album Songs From The Big Chair in a 6-disc box set.  I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing TFF and I’m hoping for a Midnight set on the Mojave stage at next April’s Coachella Festival.

Slowdive – Ace Hotel – Los Angeles – Tonight!!!

14/11/08 at 11.08am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Slowdive2GoINDEEpMusic will be out at the Ace Hotel tonight in the friendly surroundings of downtown Los Angeles for an evening of elegant shoegaze with English indie rockers Slowdive.  The pedal pushing phenoms reunited earlier this year after splitting up in 1995.

The shoegazing specialists were formed in Reading by Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell back in 1989, and the two share guitar/vocal responsibilities.  The rest of the quintet consists of bassist Nick Chaplin, drummer Adrian Sell, and additional guitarist Christian Savill.  Over a six year career the band released three critically-acclaimed albums along with a handful of extended plays.  The band credits Pink Floyd and the Sex Pistols as their influence.  For those that enjoy fun facts, Slowdive was once known as The Pumpkin Fairies early on.

The band has been on tour since May, playing 27 music festival, not quite Outkast numbers, but still impressive.   The North American leg of the tour concludes with two nights at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles.  The setlist for the reunion tour was constructed by an online survey, Halstead says that “kids” could vote on what they wanted Slowdive to play.  Call me crazy, but the first “kid” I see tonight will be the only “kid” I see tonight.  The five-piece plans to return home and hit the studio in hopes of putting together a new album, we’ll see where that goes.  In a recent interview, Mr. Halstead indicated that the band has no aspirations of becoming a Heritage Act, or hitting the Heritage circuit.  With a limited catalogue, the band has no use for playing the same songs night after night.

The Duluth, Minnesota slowcore band Low will provide support tonight.

The Decemberists Announce New Album & Share “Make You Better”

14/11/07 at 7.10am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

The DecemberistsThe Decemberists this week revealed that their seventh studio album entitled What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World will be in record stores on January 20.  This is the follow-up to the 2011 album The King Is Dead for the pride and joy of Portland, Oregon.  The new album’s title, which I will refer to as WATWWABW, was inspired by the Newtown, Connecticut school shootings in December 2012.

Read the press release here:

The first songs were highly personal, a change from the strong narrative thrust that has characterized much of The Decemberists’ work. “Having a family, having kids, having this career, getting older – all of these things have made me look more inward,” says Meloy.

These reflections come to the foreground in “12/17/12,” a song he wrote after watching President Obama address the nation following the Newtown school shootings. “I was hit by a sense of helplessness, but also the message of ’Hold your family close,’” recalls Meloy. This bewildering, conflicted feeling came out in a phrase near the end of the song – “what a terrible world, what a beautiful world”—that gave the album its title.

To accompany the announcement, the indie folk rockers shared the track “Make You Better’ (listen below), along with a string of European tour dates that begin on February 11 and conclude on March 1.  I’m sure you can already see where I’m going with this.  The Decemberists are a band that I’ve never seen play live after all these years, and I can’t think of anything better than a spot on line 2 at next April’s Coachella Music Festival.  One day when I have more time, I will countdown my top bands that I’ve never seen live, spoiler alert – The Decemberists will be near the top.  Add The Decemberists to my 2015 Coachella Perfect Poster Wish List.

The Decemberists WATWWABWWhat A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World trackllist:

01 “The Singer Addresses His Audience”
02 “Cavalry Captain”
03 “Philomena”
04 “Make You Better”
05 “Lake Song”
06 “Till The Water Is All Long Gone”
07 “The Wrong Year”
08 “Carolina Low”
09 “Better Not Wake The Baby”
10 “Anti-Summersong”
11 “Easy Come, Easy Go”
12 “Mistral”
13 “12/17/12″
14 “A Beginning Song”

KASABIAN Unveil Video For “Bow”

14/11/06 at 8.00pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

KASABIAN 4813No sooner than KASABIAN posted the video for the track “Stevie,” the Leicester lads unveiled a video for “Bow.”  The tune “Bow” is currently my fave tune on the band’s latest release 48:13.  Unfortunately, the band didn’t include it in the set when I saw them last month at the House Of Blues in San Diego.

In other KASABIAN news, Tom and Co. announced that they will release a deluxe edition of their highly-regarded (at least on this blog) fifth studio album 48:13 on November 17, in the U.K of course.  Perhaps, the band will be bringing the deluxe edition with them when they arrive back in the States in April for the 2015 Coachella Festival.  I’m officially adding KASABIAN to my 2015 Coachella Perfect Poster Wish List.

The deluxe edition will include the 48:13 album along with two B-sides, “Beans” and “Gelfing.”  The package also includes a DVD/CD of the group’s hometown gig at Leicester’s Victoria Park, attended by 50,000 of the band’s closest friends.  Additionally, KASABIAN will rerelease their four previous albums on vinyl on November 17.

Preorder your signed deluxe edition here.

Luna To Reunite, Just Not At The 2015 Coachella Festival

14/11/05 at 7.26pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

LunaAfter nearly ten years away , the indie dream-pop band Luna announced that they are reuniting.  The band that was formed by former Galaxie 500 frontman Dean Wareham back in 1991, confirmed the reunion with an announcement of a string of April 2015 dates in Spain.

Wareham said  “we’ve been talking about it for a little while, it’s been 10 years since the last show.  We got this offer from a promoter in Spain to do a short tour, and it sounded like fun.”  What sounds like fun to me is if they would have talked to Goldenvoice and reunited on the Outdoor stage at roughly 7:15 pm at the 2 Weekend Coachella Festival next April.  Instead, they plan is to do a short U.S. tour that will include, as Wareham adds, “fun places like New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles” post Spain. Those aren’t fun places, a fun place would be in my backyard.

The band released seven studio albums over a 15 year career, most notably, 1994’s Bewitched, and the 1995 release Penthouse.  The group’s current lineup consists of Wareham and his wife Britta Phillips, along with Sean Eden and Lee Wall.  I always make sure I let everyone know that the original Luna Lineup included drummer Stanley Demeski of one of my fave indie bands of all-time, The Feelies.

See you in Los Angeles next spring.

Reacquaint yourself with Luna below:
