Kasabian Tease New Album

14/01/24 at 9.47pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

band-682_1368997aOne of my favorite bands to emerge over the last ten years are the English indie rockers Kasabian. Recently, the band has confirmed that their plan is to release their fifth studio album (currently untitled) sometime in 2014. Today, the Leicester lads dropped a sneak peak clip from their recording studio (watch below).

Frontman Tom Meighan had these kind words to say about the upcoming release:
“The album is a real f*** you to anyone who ever dares criticize or snarl at us, and say we can’t do music this this. It’s a real f***ing up yours. There are a lot of bands who try and do this kind of music and fail because they’ve got no songs.

Wow, such the language. Look at Tom, going all Richard Sherman on his critics.

I recently came across some fun facts about Kasabian.

Coachella 2014: 77 Bands In 77 Days

Woodkid

woodkid-artwork-by-Daniel-Sannwald11Over the next 11 weeks I’ll dig deep into the 2014 Coachella Music Festival lineup, featuring one band per day. The purpose of this piece is to assist in difficult decisions that inevitably you’ll need to make, as well as, serve as a fun countdown to Coachella Week. Note: All bands appear in a completely random order… Enjoy, and let the countdown begin!

Day 4 = Woodkid
Performing = Friday

Singer-Songwriter Yoann Lemoine is the mastermind behind his latest neofolk project, Woodkid. Neofolk is a form of folk music-inspired experimental music that emerged from post industrial music, that sounds way too complicated for me. Mr. Lemoine has released the EP Iron in 2011, and his full-length debut The Golden Age in March 2013. The track “Run Boy Run” was nominated for Best Short Form Music Video at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

The French musician has also dabbled in graphic design and directing music videos. Some of the notable artists that he has directed music videos for include: Moby, Katy Perry, Drake, Rihanna, and someone’s guilty pleasure…Lana Del Rey

Coachella 2014: 77 Band In 77 Days

The 1975

The purpose of this piece is to assist in difficult decisions that inevitably you’ll need to make, as well as, serve as a fun countdown to Coachella Week. Note: All bands appear in a completely random order… Enjoy, and let the countdown begin!

Day 3 = The 1975
Performing = Sunday

The 1975 are an English alt-pop band that have been making music since 2002. In 2012 the Manchester based band finally settled on the name The 1975. Prior to their current moniker, the band used the names Talkhouse, The Slowdown, Bigsleep, and Drive Like I Do. Frontman Matthew Healy says that the name was inspired by scribblings found in the back page of a poetry book dated 1 June, The 1975.

The 1975 released their full-length self-titled debut back in September. Prior to that, the band released a series of four extended plays. The quartet has been compared to The Big Pink, but I’ll need quite a few more listens to be on board with that one. The band cites Talking Heads, Brian Eno, My Bloody Valentine, Peter Gabriel, and none other than “from now on Coachella is Prince’s house” as their musical influences.

Day 2 = Mogwai
Performing = Saturday

Mogwai are a cosmic rock band that formed in 1995 in Glasgow, Scotland. The band’s musical style is described as of lengthy instrumental guitar-based pieces, that add in dynamic melodic bass lines, and a heavy use of distortion and effects. “Serious Guitar Music” is what the band claims they’re going after. The key figure in making all this happen is guitarist John Cummings.

Mogwai says their influences include My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, The Cure, and the Pixies. Well there you go, I can’t go one day without mentioning the Pixies.

The band has released 8 studio albums and numerous EP’s over a nineteen year career. The most recent, Rave Tapes, coincidentally was released today.

Pixies Lovering Suggests Surprises To Come

14/01/21 at 8.03pm   /   by deepster19   /   1 Comment

19The new look Pixies kicked off the North American leg of their world tour this week with New Paz on Bass. The tour got started in the band’s old stomping ground of Northampton, Massachusetts with a 36-song warm-up gig. Yeah that’s right, your typical 36-song warm-up gig. The tour officially started this past Wednesday in Toronto, with a 32-song set that included a new tune “Silver Snail” as the show opener ,and the live debut of EP-2 track “Snakes.” I recently came across a list (view below) of new songs that the Pixies have registered to BMI.

In an interview with the Toronto Star this week, drummer David Lovering revealed that:
“there may be an EP3 and other surprises down the line. As a magician, I like the “surprise” factor. That’s what we’ve been doing, so I’ll keep it at that”.

Surprises are fun!

Here’s the list of new Pixies songs.
The list did not include “Snakes” which is on EP2
1. ALICE PRIN
2. ANDRO QUEEN = EP1
3. ANOTHER TOE IN THE OCEAN = EP1
4. BAG BOY = Released as Single
5. BANKS OF THE DRAIN
6. BLUE EYED HEXE = EP2
7. CLASSIC MASHER
8. GREENS AND BLUES = EP2
9. HOORAY FOR JAIME BRAVO
10. INDIE CINDY = EP1
11. LAND OF GREEN
12. LAST NIGHT THE WOLVES CAME OUT
13. O LITTLE CLOUD
14. MAGDALENA = EP2
15. MUST BE A DEVIL
16. PICKEREL PICKER
17. RATS ALIVE
18. RING THE BELL
19. SILVER SNAIL
20. TRANQUILIZE ME
21. UM CHAGGA LAGGA
22. UNA
23. WHAT GOES BOOM = EP1
24. WOMEN OF WAR

The tour continues this week on the eastern seaboard which includes a sold out show in Pittsburgh next Saturday. Frank Black once said that its fun to say you’re playing the eastern seaboard. BTW tickets still remain for the Phoenix show on February 24…. Just Sayin’

Real Estate Announce New Album, Tour & Share “Talking Backwards”

14/01/15 at 9.10pm   /   by deepster19   /   2 Comments

Real_Estate_Press_Web_long_imageReal Estate provided details on their forthcoming album and upcoming North American tour today. The indie rockers third studio release entitled Atlas, is scheduled to drop on March 4. The album’s release will be supported by a North American tour that runs from February 28 – April 5. The tour’s conclusion date opens up the possibility of being a late add to the 2014 Coachella Music Festival. Ridgewood, New Jersey’s pride and joy would provide some much needed indie help to the incredibly weak Day 3.

The three piece found enough time today to also release the first single from the new LP “Talking Backwards” (watch below). Atlas is the follow-up to 2011’s Days.

I always hear some influences from indie pioneers The Feelies when I listen to Real Estate. Coincidentally, The Feelies are also from Jersey.
