The Replacements Leak 2 Rehearsal Video Clips

13/07/05 at 1.49pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Replacements_400The Replacements have teased their fans over the last week with two separate video clips of reunion tour rehearsals posted to the band’s new Facebook page. The first clip is 9 seconds of “Alex Chilton” and the second is 19 seconds of “Favorite Thing” (watch clips below). It remains unclear who will be the other two musicians that will join Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson for the reunion shows. “Allegedly” long time drummer Chris Mars will not part of the reunion, because he would say no…Let it be known, I don’t believe any of that shit.

The Mats are currently scheduled to appear at three Riot Fest dates in Chicago, Toronto, and Denver.

Pixies Announce Fall 2013 Tour & New Bassist

13/07/01 at 9.59pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Kim Shatuck
Never a dull moment in Pixies camp lately. Two weeks ago we learned that bassist Kim Deal quit the band, and then this past Friday the new song “Bagboy” turns up in your inbox. This morning news broke of an European fall tour and a new Kim on bass. Frank Black, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering will joined on stage by their new bassist Kim Shattuck. Ms.Shattuck’s credentials include fronting the L.A. rock band The Muffs, as well as a member of the eighties paisley underground band The Pandoras. Who could have imagined that this blog would make two separate references to the “paisley underground” scene in less than one week?

Bleached Release Video “Dead In Your Head”

13/06/24 at 9.46pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

bleached4Occasionally a tune comes around where you find it necessary to hit repeat. This month for me it’s “Dead In Your Head,” the infectious new single from the LA based band of sisters that call themselves Bleached. The indie pop-punk group released their debut album “Ride Your Heart” back on March 25th, and have since inserted themselve into the best new acts of 2013 conversation. Bleached kicks off their North American summer tour on June 30th in Costa Mesa, Ca.

Fun times in Babylon…

20130622_212854Another stellar performance by Father John Misty went down at the Glass House in Pomona on Saturday June 22nd. The remarkable stage presence of Josh Tillman was in full effect, with intensity during songs and humor between them. Regarding the topic of Emo music: ‘I don’t like to talk shit about musical genres, just specific bands’. While he didn’t give in to requests for “I Believe I Can Fly”, the encore included an intense cover of the Beatles classic “Happiness Is a Warm Gun”. FJM should be a priority for anyone to check out, if being entertained is your kind of thing.

IMG_3088Deepsters were out in full force Thursday night at the Belly Up Tavern, Southern California’s premiere live music venue. Sea Wolf, the LA cutting edge indie folk act lead by frontman Alex Brown Church was the attraction. The band sliced through a beautifully arranged 16 song set (see setlist below) that was lead off by the 2007 indie smash hit “You’re A Wolf.” Their latest record “Old World Romance” (released September 2012) was showcased in half of the set. The three song encore was highlighted by an Alex solo acoustic performance of “Leaves In The River.” among other things…

Kim Deal Resigns As Pixies Bassist

13/06/15 at 9.09am   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

n22939707441_1015004_2613
The last ten years seemed too good to be true… Non-stop touring, nearly every show available for download, physical copies of the show available twenty minutes later, Doolittle performed in it’s entirety for two straight years, and every show ending like it was something out of The Waltons.

Then we wake up this morning to find out Kim Deal has quit as bassist of the Pixies. Kim has yet to speak, however it was confirmed by the band in this statement from the Pixies facebook page: We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best.

Make Music Pasadena Festival 2013

13/06/03 at 3.13pm   /   by deepster19   /   1 Comment

A group of us attended the Make Music Pasadena Festival this past Saturday and here are some of the highlights from the event.

After the traditional pregame meal at The Cheesecake Factory we made our way over to the Playhouse District Stage on South Madison Ave. where we spent most of the day.

superhumanoids3First up for us was the LA dream pop four piece, Superhumanoids. These up and comers performed a great set highlighted by the their latest single “Geri”.Superhumanoids debut full length is due out June 11th, and they will also be supporting Local Natives and Cold War Kids on their upcoming tour. Check them out if you’re not familiar with them.

Next to take the stage was Brazilian underground solo artist Dom La Nena. Come to find out Nena was performing her first U.S, show ever. A few highlights from the show included the crowd sing along to “Buenos Aires” and the cover of The National’s “Start A War”. One deepster down front asked if she had anymore National on “La Lista” and she replied “I wish…next time”.

was5New York based indie rockers We Are Scientists were up next. Their much anticipated set was dominated by songs off the last record “Barbara” but also included the classic hit singles “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt”, “The Great Escape”, and the set closer “After Hours”. (Setlist at the end of the article) I spoke with the band after the set and suggested to them a 10 year anniversary tour where they do “With Love And Squalor” in it’s entirety. They seemed open to the idea…I’ll keep you guys posted as I get more information. One other side note from the show, Keith was dressed in the traditional v-neck white t-shirt and apologized for not playing “Cash Cow”.

After taking a quick timeout we arrived back at the Playhouse Stage to catch the last part of Bobbie DeLong’s set. He had the crowd f’n dancing to his experimental power pop. Good for him!

tanlines3The final set of the day for me was Tanlines. The Brooklyn, New York electronic indie rock duo powered through a quick set that included the hit singles “Brothers” and “All Of Me”. Jesse commented that the bad thing about not having much time was less talking in between songs for him…which was better for us.

Other notable acts that performed at the festival included: Yacht, Taken By Trees, and Youngblood Hawke.

The annual Make Music Pasadena Festival is a well organized free event that I highly recommend attending.
