Fanfarlo Shares The Sea EP For Free

14/01/28 at 9.30pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

fanfarloweb-cr-photo-by-eva-vermandelThe London based indie-folk band Fanfarlo have shared The Sea EP for free. The website NoiseTrade.com has made the 4-songs available for the price of an email address. This offer comes in advance of the band’s third full-length release Let’s Go Extinct, scheduled to drop on February 11, and probably not free. The band described their current sound as “Space Opera meets Spaghetti Western.” I like spaghetti!

Check out the videos for “A Distance” from The Sea EP, and “Landlocked” the lead single from Let’s Go Extinct below. The Sea was originally released last fall.

Coachella 2014: 77 Bands In 77 Days

Disclosure

14/01/25 at 6.08pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

discOver the next 11 weeks I’ll dig deep into the 2014 Coachella Music Festival lineup, featuring one band per day. The purpose of this piece is to assist in difficult decisions that inevitably you’ll need to make, as well as, serve as a fun countdown to Coachella Week. Note: All bands appear in a completely random order… Enjoy, and let the countdown begin!

Check out previous days here.

Day 6 = Disclosure
Performing = Sunday

The bros duo of Guy and Howard Lawrence are an English electronic act that formed in 2010. Since their formation, these dudes have become one of the most highly regarded electronic acts in the world. Their debut full-length Settle, released last June, was recognized on many best-of 2013 countdowns, but not mine. Settle, was a finalist for the prestigious Mercury Prize, and is nominated for the Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. For those that even care, the Grammy Awards take place
tomorrow night (January 26) on CBS.

While enjoying commercial success, they’ve released numerous extended plays and singles over the last four years. This year Disclosure adds themselves to a unique list of acts that have played Coachella in consecutive years, joining the likes of The Black Keys and Sleigh Bells as Coachella house bands.

If this is your thing, continue on.

Day 5 = Saints Of Valory

Saints Of Valory are an alternative rock band that formed in 2008 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The band is currently based out of Austin, Texas… but isn’t everyone these days. The four piece self-released the EP The Bright Lights in 2010, and followed it up with another EP Possibilities last July. I noticed that the lead single from Possibilities is titled “Neon Eyes (Into The Deep),”
what a fun name, let’s definitely check that one out below! I’m feeling a little Airborne Toxic Event, especially in the “Kids” track below.

Kasabian Tease New Album

14/01/24 at 9.47pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

band-682_1368997aOne of my favorite bands to emerge over the last ten years are the English indie rockers Kasabian. Recently, the band has confirmed that their plan is to release their fifth studio album (currently untitled) sometime in 2014. Today, the Leicester lads dropped a sneak peak clip from their recording studio (watch below).

Frontman Tom Meighan had these kind words to say about the upcoming release:
“The album is a real f*** you to anyone who ever dares criticize or snarl at us, and say we can’t do music this this. It’s a real f***ing up yours. There are a lot of bands who try and do this kind of music and fail because they’ve got no songs.

Wow, such the language. Look at Tom, going all Richard Sherman on his critics.

I recently came across some fun facts about Kasabian.

The 1975

The purpose of this piece is to assist in difficult decisions that inevitably you’ll need to make, as well as, serve as a fun countdown to Coachella Week. Note: All bands appear in a completely random order… Enjoy, and let the countdown begin!

Day 3 = The 1975
Performing = Sunday

The 1975 are an English alt-pop band that have been making music since 2002. In 2012 the Manchester based band finally settled on the name The 1975. Prior to their current moniker, the band used the names Talkhouse, The Slowdown, Bigsleep, and Drive Like I Do. Frontman Matthew Healy says that the name was inspired by scribblings found in the back page of a poetry book dated 1 June, The 1975.

The 1975 released their full-length self-titled debut back in September. Prior to that, the band released a series of four extended plays. The quartet has been compared to The Big Pink, but I’ll need quite a few more listens to be on board with that one. The band cites Talking Heads, Brian Eno, My Bloody Valentine, Peter Gabriel, and none other than “from now on Coachella is Prince’s house” as their musical influences.

Day 2 = Mogwai
Performing = Saturday

Mogwai are a cosmic rock band that formed in 1995 in Glasgow, Scotland. The band’s musical style is described as of lengthy instrumental guitar-based pieces, that add in dynamic melodic bass lines, and a heavy use of distortion and effects. “Serious Guitar Music” is what the band claims they’re going after. The key figure in making all this happen is guitarist John Cummings.

Mogwai says their influences include My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, The Cure, and the Pixies. Well there you go, I can’t go one day without mentioning the Pixies.

The band has released 8 studio albums and numerous EP’s over a nineteen year career. The most recent, Rave Tapes, coincidentally was released today.
