Pixies Reveal New Bassist & Video

13/12/09 at 7.39pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

pazWithout even an official whisper from the band concerning the termination of touring bassist Kim Shattuck, earlier this morning the Pixies announced her replacement. The band revealed that Paz Lenchantin will be the bassist on their forthcoming 2014 tour in North and South America, and Europe. Lenchantin, whose resume includes A Perfect Circle and Billy Corgan’s (Smashing Pumpkins) side project Zwan, takes over for the recently departed New Kim and original bassist Old Kim. Although it can’t be confirmed, we can only assume that Ms. Lenchantin’s middle name has to be Kimberly.

Drummer David Lovering addressed the Lenchantin hiring in an email sent to fans earlier today:

“We are really looking forward to playing with her on these dates. Working with different bass players is very new for the band, but we’re having a great time doing it.”

In addition to the bassist announcement, the Pixies also unveiled yet another video, this time for the EP-1 track “Another Toe In The Ocean” (watch below).

I look forward to seeing Paz in Phoenix on February 24, and again Weekend 1 of the Coachella Music Festival in April.

Shattuck Out As Pixies Bassist

13/12/04 at 10.29pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Kim-Shattuck-300x300Moments after completing the first leg of their world tour in Europe, the Pixies relieved new bassist Kim Shattuck of her duties. Ms. Shattuck was hired back on July 1 to replace original member Kim Deal who decided to resign. New Kim, which lasted a hair under six months, plans to dive back into The Muffs.

Shattuck delivered the news of her departure via Twitter and Facebook:

“Super disappointed to learn that my time with the Pixies ended today. Amazing experience. Looking forward to focusing my attention back on the Muffs and our upcoming new album. All the best to everyone.”

Speculation has already started on who will replace Old Kim and New Kim. Here are a few names to keep your eyes on: Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Kim Clarke (Defunkt), Kim Warnick (Fastbacks), Kim Kardashian (Kanye West), and the possible return of Kim Deal.

The Pixies begin the North American leg of their tour on January 15 in Toronto.

HAIM Announce 2014 Coachella Appearance

13/11/22 at 1.13pm   /   by deepster19   /   18 Comments

HaimThe HAIM sisters announced yesterday that they will bringing their indie-pop to the 2014 Coachella Festival. The band took a slightly similar approach to the one Arcade Fire used only days before, by announcing their appearance on their world tour dates (see below). The one difference in the ladies announcement is an attempt to trick the trained eye by sneaking in Las Vegas, NV. on April 17. The ‘”we hope you forget about Coachella because were playing other show around Coachella” tactic never works. My guess in line 3.

Don’t miss HAIM this week on Saturday Night Live. SNL must be on location in Germany this week…

In other Coachella news:
An alleged leak in OutKast camp has the duo reuniting at the 2014 Festival. One of the things this Festival does well is keeping things quiet until at least January. I can’t imagine an act revealing an appearance so far in advance. Writing it for “pretend” on their tour dates, yes, but talking about it openly in November… ain’t buying it. I could be wrong.

BTW, everyone knows that the most successful duo of all time is not Andre 3000 and Big Boi, its Hall and Freaking Oates.

The Arcade Fire announced that there will be a strict “fancy” dress code enforced on their forthcoming Reflektor tour.

Check out some of the many affordable options available to you at The Men’s Warehouse in Indio, California. Prices start out as low as a nights stay at the 6.

arcadeThe Canadian collective Arcade Fire announced that they will be appearing on the top line at the 2 weekend 2014 Coachella Festival. The Coachella appearance announcement is documented below and is extremely difficult to see with the untrained eye. However, if you look reeeeeal hard you can see that it’s there. See it? If by chance my eyes are deceiving me, all I can say is… brilliant work by Win and the gang. The band recently released their overhyped fourth studio album Reflektor back on October 28.

Come on Goldenvoice… twice in four years, what’s next The Black Keys?

Another Near R.E.M. Reunion

13/11/16 at 10.12pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

Music R.E.M.Those that turned out last night at the 40 Watt Club to see Kevin Kinney and The Roamin Countrymen & Peter Buck, got more than their five bucks worth. Bill Berry and Mike Mills joined Peter on stage at the historic Athens, Georgia live music venue. The almost R.E.M. reunion was missing frontman Michael Stipe, who (allegedly) was in the audience. The three-piece played “Don’t Go Back To Rockville” (watch below), from their 1984 release Reckoning. This is the second time since June that we’ve had a near R.E.M. reunion. Bill, Mike, and Peter also played together at Peter’s wedding reception. Apparently, the four hometown heroes were seen on the streets of Athens the day before, so the aRe wE theM appearance came as no surprise.

13/11/05 at 8.15pm   /   by present-tense   /   0 Comment

File this under “Holy Crap, Failure is Reuniting”. Failure is reuniting!!!

Ken Andrews (lead singer of Failure, On, Year of the Rabbit) confirmed via Spin that he’s getting the band back together which means Greg Edwards (Autolux) and Kelli Scott are along for the journey. That’s the classic “Fantastic Planet” era lineup right there people. If you are reading this and asking yourself “What the hell is Fantastic Planet?”, get thyself to iTunes, Amazon, Spotify or what have you and give that record a listen. It’s a 5 star album all the way. Then go back and listen to their other records “Magnified” and “Comfort”. Continue reading →

Simple Minds, Still Alive and Kicking

13/10/24 at 9.39pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

101722793_simple_mi_355647cLast Tuesday evening the heritage act Simple Minds played to a sellout crowd at the historic Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The Glasgow, Scotland based band performed on United States soil for the first time in eleven years. The band has been touring the world since 2011 playing what is being billed as a Greatest Hits Tour, and finally decided that seven North American dates were worthy
enough. The entire evening showcased the group with two solid sets (see setlist below) broken up by a twenty minute interval, with no supporting act.

ttwsLost in all of the hysteria over Cults releasing their sophomore album Static last Tuesday, was the fact that Toad The Wet Sprocket released their first studio album in sixteen years. Their latest release titled New Constellation, is the long-awaited follow-up to 1997’s Coil. The pride and joy of Santa Barbara, California are considered by many a deepster as a highly regarded guilty pleasure band. The alternative pop rock band has been touring periodically since 2006, but just recently proclaimed themselves as an active project.

Neutral Milk Hotel Play First Gig in 15 Years

13/10/14 at 9.33pm   /   by deepster19   /   0 Comment

neutral_milk_hotelThis past Friday night Neutral Milk Hotel performed their first show in nearly fifteen years with the band’s original line-up. The classic indie fuzz-folk act kicked off the much anticipated reunion tour at 2640 Space in Baltimore, Maryland. The band, led by singer/songwriter Jeff Mangum, have continued to add more tour dates on a regular basis since announcing they were reuniting back in late April. The currently constructed world tour is scheduled to last until June 2014.One glaring omission is the lack of any U.S. west coast dates… You can bet your bottom dollar that Mr. Mangum and company will grace the main stage at the Coachella Music Festival next spring.

Check out the NMH tour dates here.
