In addition, here’s my Spicy Six Albums of the week. These are the six albums that can’t find their way out of my six disc changer. The list consists of my Top 5 Albums of the week, and one Heritage Album that’s worth dusting off and giving a listen.

Here’s the lists:
Canadian slack rocker Mac DeMarco (pictured) takes over the top spot from Real Estate. Three new albums debut in the Top 20, including Avey Tare’s Slacker Flicks. The new project from An Co member Avey Tare jumps 91 spots to debut at #12. After that solid performance from Future Islands out in the desert, their latest album “Singles” remains at #1 on Spicy Radio.

Here’s the lists:
Two weeks in a row at the top spot on College Radio for Real Estate. Four new albums debut in the Top 20, including the latest from Cloud Nothings. Dylan Baldi and Co. jump up 82 spots to #5. Also new to the countdown is DJ DEEp’s new favorite band Future Islands (pictured), the Samuel T. Herring fronted band come in at #16, as well as hold down the top spot on Spicy Radio with their latest album “Singles.”

Here’s the lists:
Ridgewood, New Jersey’s pride and joy, Real Estate (pictured), have the #1 album in the land, replacing St. Vincent after one week a the top. Five new albums debut in the Top 20, including the latest from Liars, the Brooklyn, NY trio moves an incredible 130 spots to #17. Future Islands maintain the #1 spot on Spicy Radio, but continue to receive no love on College Radio.

Here’s the lists:
The latest self-titled release from St. Vincent (pictured) replaces Beck after two weeks at the top of the charts. A total of four new albums enter the top 20 this week; including the latest from War On Drugs, the Philadelphia indie band jumps up 48 spots to #5, and the Syracuse, New York hardcore outfit Perfect Pussy, debut in the Top 200 all the way at #15. Another noteworthy debut is the sophomore effort from Bear Hands. The band will perform at the Coachella Festival this year on the Saturday lineup. “Singles,” the fourth studio album from Future Islands, takes over the top spot on Spicy Radio.

For a second straight week Beck has the #1 album on college radio. Three new albums enter the Top 20, including the latest release from Wild Beasts (pictured), who jump up 19 spots to #14. As we have discussed ad nauseam on this blog, the Wild Beasts LP is titled Present Tense. Real Estate remains #1 on Spicy Radio, I don’t see anyone knocking them out of the top spot anytime soon.

Here’s the lists:
After four weeks at the top Dum Dum Girls fall to #2, as Beck (pictured) takes over #1. Five new albums enter the Top 20; including the latest self-titled release by St. Vincent, up 33 spots to #3, and “Atlas,” the third release by Real Estate, jumping 45 spots to #4. On Spicy Radio the aforementioned Real Estate is the new #1, replacing Broken Bells. Seriously, Real Estate is the closest thing I’ve found to The Feelies in the last 25 years. BTW, that THUMPERS “Galore” was a nice find.

Phantogram (pictured) is the biggest mover, up 58 spots to #7 with “Voices.” Broken Bells maintain the top spot for a fourth straight week on Spicy Radio.

On Spicy Radio, Broken Bells maintain a grasp of the pole position for a third straight week. The more I listen to Cheatahs the more I’m hearing Swervedriver.

Broken Bells (pictured) leaps 38 spots to #5, and remains the #1 album on Spicy Radio.

Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings three week run at the top of the charts is over, as the latest beautiful new album from Dum Dum Girls (pictured) “Too True” takes over the top spot. Five new albums break into the Top 20, including the LA based garage band Together Pangea that jumps up 16 spots to #16, while the Santa Barbara, California indie band Gardens and Villa comes in at #11.

Broken Bells hold down the top spot on Spicy Radio for a second week, while the debut full-length from Temples is inserted into the changer as Sky is ejected.

That’s 3 weeks in a row at #1 for Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, while 6 new albums make their appearance in the Top 20. Some notable big movers include: Dum Dum Girls “Too True” jumping 52 spots all the way to #2, and “Trouble” by Hospitality (pictured) climbing 70 spots to #12. This week also marks the point where we begin to witness the slow and painful death of The Reflekors album “Reflektor.” Looks like they might be surveying quite a few high school radio stations… how else do you explain #16

Shake up on Spicy Radio as Broken Bells debut at #1. Man, I’ve had that track “Leave It Alone” on repeat all week. Don’t worry… Sky is still in there.

Top Albums For The Week Of January 28, 2014

Painted-Palms-Featured-674x370New to the blog in 2014 is a weekly piece featuring the Top Albums of the week. Each week (like it or not), I will post the Top 20 College Radio Albums taken from the Radio 200 list published by CMJ (College Media Journal). The reputable rag surveys up to 600 college radio stations of a weekly basis to compute the list.

If that’s not enough… I will give you my Spicy Six Albums of the week. These are the six albums that can’t find their way out of my six disc changer. The list will consist of my Top 5 Albums of the week, and one Heritage Album that’s worth dusting off and giving a listen.

Here’s this week’s lists:
Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings remain at #1 on college radio, while five new albums make their appearance in the top 20. Mogwai’s
latest album “Rave Tapes” is the biggest mover, jumping 79 spots this week to #6.

There’s a new #1 on Spicy Radio, as the full-length debut by San Francisco’s Painted Palms (pictured) replaces Sky Ferreira. Many comparisons out there to Animal Collective, but I’m also hearing some Yeasayer similarities. Decide for yourself.

Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings replace Blood Orange as the #1 album on college radio this week. New to the Top 200 are the San Francisco band Painted Palms debuting at #11, and English indie rockers TOY at #19. Seattle based singer-songwriter Damien Jurado jumps 46 spots to #4.

Still stuck in my compact disc player is the debut full-length from hipstress Sky Ferreira. What started out as an innocent guilty pleasure has turned into an obsession I can’t eject.

British singer/songwriter Dev Hynes, better known as Blood Orange, moves into the number 1 spot this week with “Cupids Deluxe,” while Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings move up 14 spots to number 2 with their release “Give The People What They Want.” Nashville based garage rockers Cheap Time are new to the countdown, coming in at number 18 with “Exit Smiles.”
